Looking for load data 20 practical

TominSWNY-

Who makes the 42g FBHP? this interests me, always wanted to try a mid-40's other than the spire point Hdy.

My 20P is really liking H322 and 32gr Vmax as well as 35gr Bergers. I really like the way the H322 meters also.

I find the 35 grain Bergers outstanding with 22 grains of IMR4198. Attached is a 7 shot group shot on break in day. Criterion barrel 24" w/ 1 in 11 twist, on a Savage Model 12.

I just started with my 20p. 24in pacnor super match 3 groove. I switched to benchmark for supposedly better pressure stability for shooting this summer. Started out with h335. The BM is pita to weigh accurately as takes longer to weigh out with my thrower due to it not being ball powder. Slowest part of my reloading process. I can only get to within avg of .3 gr with my thrower so lots of trickling.
I decided to stick with 39sbk as people reported good results and I want to shoot out further 300+. I am getting 3800fps with 25.5g BM out of my AR with good accuracy. Shot plenty of 3 shots off my bipod in the 1's. best was .153. 5 shots in the 2's.
Am using uniformed LC brass with now bm4. Loads are not over the edge hot. If I get to 3900-4000fps with another .5 gr then I am into the no go zone pressure wise. The 7 1/2 primers were showing artificial pressure signs and then I switched to br4 which are a bit larger in diameter with same cup thickness and they looked much better.
At 3800 it shoots nice in my rifle without too much blast with the hotter loads. I actually shot about 15 rds one day before noticing I had forgotten to put in my earplugs!
Looking forward to finding some rock chucks shortly..

Where do you know me?
Uh. I've been to Montana with you and the local police held me and your stepson at gun point. Remember now. LOL.

Sorry about jacking this thread. 8208 w/ 32 grn. V/Z max's has been spectacular.

I just acquired another 20 Prac barrel SS 26" 10T, from what I've read I should not have any issues with 39 or 40 grain bullets. What about the 30 to 35 grain bullets? What velocities can I expect with the 32's? 39's? Has anyone tried the Hornady 45gr SP's?

32 grn. Central Montana about 4400 and Eastern Montana about 2600. Home is at about the 4500 ft level.

I haven't done the numbers but 32 grain is most likely stabilized at those altitudes but heavier, longer bullets may be borderline with a 12 twist. The general consensus and proven setup on the 20P is 10 or 11 twist with zero freebore.

With 26" of barrel, you should be able to achieve ~4,050 fps with the 32s and 3,850 with the 39-40s without getting crazy. I haven't tried the 45s.

I live in montana also and have 3 or 4 12tw. 20 cal that shoot fine also with 34gr. V-nitemares but you can be assured when it's time to replace them it will be with 11tw.

AR 1-10 twist. Montana 4500 to 6000ft 27 grain of CFE 40 grain vmax shoots great but is stinky very stinky.

At the end of today i switched to my v133 cant remember how hot? 32 grain varmageddon. Less recoil less stink & seemed to have just as much flying carnage as the 40 grains but time will tell

Anyone notice better carnage with 32 grains vs 40 or the same?

I've seen more explosive destruction from the 32's than the 40's, but I run the 40s down around 3500 and the 32s up around 4100, so it makes sense. Either load is about like putting a M80 firecracker in a squirrel anyways, but the 40s do a little better with wind drift beyond 300 meters.
