Looking for advice

I have a 284 shehane that I would like to use the COW, cream of wheat method, to form 200 pieces of brass. I was wandering if using this method will damage the barrel in any manner. I think I would have to clean the barrel after every 20-30 shots to get any c.o.w. out. Is it worth the trouble, or have you found it better to just use a load and jam the bullet to fire form the brass? Any input is appreciated. Thanks,
DS

The whole reason ppl use the cow method is to save the barrel some. And save bullets. THERES NO REPLACEMENT FOR A BURNT OUT BARREL WITH THE SAME CHAMBER TO JUST FIREFORM BRASS IN TO SAVE A GOOD BARREL.

Cow mothod is messy.. gonna have to clean good

Dont worry about the barrel worry about that junk caking up around the neck shoulder junction and creating a bomb. Its not worth it. Think about how many brass you actually need- i bought a 22-250ai one time that had 500pcs of formed brass. The guy coyote hunted. He used half his barrel life forming brass when he could have done 20 or 50. If you shoot a 40rd weekend match once a month you dont need 500 cases, etc. another thing- getting dj’s brass to hydroform your brass is a good tactic too

"Fireforming" a Shehane hardly moves the brass at all. The shoulder and headspace remain the same. So, there is no need to do any of the silly stuff you do when fireforming: jamming, false neck, blah blah. You are just blowing out some of the taper in the case: that's it. It will shoot amazing in fireform mode. Load 54.0 gr of H4831 and go shoot a clean.

Sirs,
Thank you for everyone's input. I will just load and shoot in local club matches to form brass . I did not think of the build up in the neck shoulder junction.

Aww! That only happens if you like milk and sugar on your Cream of Wheat!:D:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Seriously, I'd go with Scott Harris's advice.;) Dusty: You did figure the barrel was toast on that gun, right? I'd like to know where that guy was hunting Coyotes to need 500 rounds!

I never give a dime for a barrel. Unless i chambered it and know for a fact its never had a cleaning rod or round thru it- i consider them toast.
