looking for a recomendation??

guys im looking to buy a good shooting tube fed bolt action .22lr. with a wood stock of sorts. this gun would be for hunting squirrels but good accuracy is a must also. i have a few pre 64 winchesters that should not be hunted with anymore as their value is too high. i recently bought a newer 22mag that i am really happy with. i wish i could buy its clone in a 22lr but it is not made anymore. i will not buy one with a clip or synthetic stock. looking for a full sized gun ,i seem to shoot them better offhand. any help appreciated.

I'd say the best you could do is a Remington 582, and you'll have to find a used one. Otherwise Marlin makes a tube fed bolt action .22 that would work.

Have you considered the Henry lever action?

Or their pump?

I will look into that 582. I go to the gun shows often. I ll find something. As far as the henry, i am set on the bolt gun. I also have a marlin 39a it too does not see use. These guns were my fathers and are worth a mint in good condition. I will use the mag until i find a one that suits me. Any more models to look at?

Fordwrench,

KatoKoch hit the nail on the head. I have one that was my first .22 back in the 70's. The 582 action is basiclly the slimmed down version of the 540, one of Remmys great target rimfires. Great shooter and in fact I'm shooting it tomorrow night in my first Light Rifle Match. The thing is more accurate than I..

I have found several for family members on Gunbroker and such. Avg price around 200$ Yes, for the money it is a great shooter and made nice the way rifles used to be made.

There's also the remington 512. I've got a 511 that's the clip fed and it will outshoot my 52b win sporter and 541s remmy. The later model ones accept a scope and the 512x (its the later model)

Cannot argue with above choices and inexpensive used quality. Their choices are certaintly worth looking into but I'd like to suggest you look into the CZ line . Check them out on Rimfire Central and see what they say about the CZ line . I'm very, very happy with mine .
