Looking for a new press.

Currently I have an RCBS press but I'm looking to upgrade. What do you recommend? I'm interested in a more precision rifle load.

Thanks.

Precision comes from the dies, not the press.

The RockChucker is fully capable of what you want to do.

Get better dies!!

The redding dies are real good and the new whidden dies are certainly as good or better than redding. If you cant afford the super high end go with forster bushing dies for a match chamber and ,or the regular match grade they sell. I am very happy with forster dies.If I had more cash I would go to the whiddens or a custom made by harrells and other gunshops who will make a custom sizing die from 4 fired in your gun cases.

If you are just looking on the seating side I would recommend inline Wilson dies and a Arbor press.

Rockchucker and full length bushing dies is all I have ever used and have had pretty good results with them.

I have an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme and a Forster Co-AX press + Custom Dies.

The CO-AX is a lot more fun and much easier and convenient to use. That's the only difference, but to me a big difference.

The Rock Chucker is now employed for only necking up brass.

Precision actually comes from finding a bullet-barrel-powder combo that works and sticking with it.

The CO-AX must be in demand. Nobody has them in stock.

When I went from RCBS to upgrade, I went to T7 Redding. I gained the freedom to run multiple dies without winding dies in and out, and found that the T7 was machined much better. I like it for the price point.

C&H #444 is very hard to beat.

You can form anything and it's indestructible.

I have one, along with the CH Champion, which is a 30 pound animal.

The nice thing is that the height of the die deck, and the shell holder deck is exactly the same on both presses - so I use the CH-Champion at home and the 444 for loading at the range... it works great, and no re-adjusting the dies.

I like my T7 turret, because it's a turret, but your Rockchucker will load just as good as anything. jmo Barlow

Want to upgrade....remove the snap ring that holds the shell holder from the Rock Chucker and replace it with an o-ring....or do with out.....Slop in a press is a good thing because it's proper sizing dies that make accurate ammo. If you FLS large cartridges a good "O" frame press (such as the RC) will give less flex. If you only load for smaller cases, even the RCBS Partner Press will produce accurate ammo....that's what many short range Benchrest competitors use.

I don't know if it will help you produce more accurate ammo but you will be hard pressed
to beat the ease, speed, convenience and excellent features of the Forster Co-Ax press.

CatShooter is spot on, mass produced dies from Forster are good, Redding maybe better than Forster, or just as good, but a set of custom made dies is where true precision comes from, I really like my Co-Ax press, and my Partner Press, so keep the Rockchucker, and invest in custom made dies.

Foster Co-Ax has my vote I like the dead stop primer seating, snap in dies, Full cam over with 6 to one ratio. Floating dies. I do all my loading without the handle. Larry

MD,
As has been said, the RCBS Ruck Chucker (if that's what you have) works just fine. But if it's precision you seek, like Cat says consider getting better dies. I have both Redding (for FL Resizing) and Wilson Dies (for Neck Sizing and Bullet Seating) PLUS I use an Arbor Press to seat the bullets so I can actually "feel" the bullets seat and also can feel the consistency from one round to the next. It's one way I also can tell the state of my brass (too hard or too soft, etc). Takes time to develop that "feel" but you can sure tell when you have brass that requires additional steps (annealing, neck tension, etc). That Rock Chucker has been my mainstay in reloading for years, though I've also added a Redding Big Boss and got rid of the Turret Press as I personally don't like Turrets for Precision reloading. Now for hunting reloading purposes Turrets are great. Just my thoughts.

I have used a RCBS for many years. have a CH 444, have presses all the way back to the Tru-line Jr. I started with when I went from nut crackers to a press. the truth is most of them if you have good shell holders and the best dies will give you quality reloads. that said you must do the prep and know your brass is up to standard for what you are shooting. yes I use Wilson dies and an arbor press for my match loads. also have a Harrell's I take to the range when I am chronographing and working up loads.
it still comes down to the dies and i have had bad dies from the best manufacturers.
