Looking for a chart....

Does anyone know of or is there a chart for action to barrel torque? I've broken two action wrenches trying to remove a barrel from this Surgeon receiver.
I have a three foot pipe on my breaker bar and can't budge it. Guess it's in the Kroil some more 2 days wasn't enough.

There may be loctite on the threads , some heat can degrade it.

Cut a relief just in front of the barrel shoulder. I have done that many times on p17 receivers because I am sure they used some form of superhero to torque those barrels on.

I'm trying to save the barrel for the man, so a relief cut is a last resort.
This is a rebarrel that wasn't polished afterwards and he's being jacked around by the big name smith that did it. I just don't understand why it's so tight I see no signs of an kind of thread locker. I just got a feeling there is going to be more to it than meets the eye.

You can use an external action wrench unless it has the integral rail. Never seen one that wouldn't handle.

If you want to release loctite, then 400 deg F will do it, however, it will take quite a while to heat all that mass up slowly to temp. When it releases a small amount of smoke and odor may be produced (hopefully).

so youve broken two action wrenches but the barrel hasnt moved in the barrel vise? what kind of action wrenches are you using? i cant imagine breakiing my action wrenches.

The external wrap around wheeler is exactly the wrench you need. Put rosin under it if you want to protect the surface. Or a 3x5 card Don't use tape--the glue becomes a lubricant. make sure you put a 1/4-28 bolt in the front action hole and snug it up. It won't break. --Jerry

Yeah that's the exact ones I broke. The only other one I have is an external wrap around wheeler, I'm afraid of it slipping and scratching up the action.
no wonder-i use the wheeler with duct tape in it and never had it slip. make sure you use the recommended torque cause ive had it pinch the action ring and make the barrel tight when its actually loose.

I figured that was the wrench you were using. I wouldn't trust it over 75 ft lbs to be honest. Get a rear entry action wrench, use some heat and you should be able to get it off without much trouble.

I don't believe Surgeon makes an action without an integral rail, could be wrong though.
