I'm trying to save the barrel for the man, so a relief cut is a last resort. There may be loctite on the threads , some heat can degrade it.
Cut a relief just in front of the barrel shoulder. I have done that many times on p17 receivers because I am sure they used some form of superhero to torque those barrels on.
so youve broken two action wrenches but the barrel hasnt moved in the barrel vise? what kind of action wrenches are you using? i cant imagine breakiing my action wrenches.Does anyone know of or is there a chart for action to barrel torque? I've broken two action wrenches trying to remove a barrel from this Surgeon receiver.
I have a three foot pipe on my breaker bar and can't budge it. Guess it's in the Kroil some more 2 days wasn't enough.
Yeah that's the exact ones I broke. The only other one I have is an external wrap around wheeler, I'm afraid of it slipping and scratching up the action. If you are using the little surgeon action wrench that inserts through the ejection/loading port, you are not suppose to exceed 100 ft. lbs
This is the one I am talking about: https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-...es/remington-700-action-wrench-prod26568.aspx
no wonder-i use the wheeler with duct tape in it and never had it slip. make sure you use the recommended torque cause ive had it pinch the action ring and make the barrel tight when its actually loose.Yeah that's the exact ones I broke. The only other one I have is an external wrap around wheeler, I'm afraid of it slipping and scratching up the action.
