longest varmint shot

I believe this is the longest live animal shot that's ever been made, though it won't stand forever probably--

Here's mine, that i'd like to refer to as "calcd. luck"--

I got a prairie dog at 836 yards then my buddy made one at 915 yards, This year, both of us are having new long range prairie dog rifles made. His in .243 and mine in 6BR. Our trip is in late June so we have some time to work up some loads.

1394 yd prarie dog----Viper 6 mm Dasher, 115 Bergers, 7 twist Brux, NF, ST 1000
Witnessed by VOlDoc and JR in Ky. Colorado Safarri '09

2010 yards with a 20 mph wind from the left, so I had to do some quick math in my head. Nailed that pesky P-Dog after readjusting my 20x scope, leveling a 50 grain jacketed soft-point DogTown special. I expect I'll never be able to duplicate that shot again with my .219 Zipper and if you believe this bull, try shooting at 500 yards and witness the failure to CONNECT with anything other than sand. This scenario does not mean you're a lousy shot, but merely human. Cliffy

Longest single shot PDog kill was 761 yards off hood of the truck with just bi-pods, no rest.

Ruger Custom 77V - 220 Swift-AI, Kreiger 1:14 twist 30" barrel, Timney Trigger, blue printed/trued action, Leupold VXIII 8.5-32x40mm Premier Reticle Scope (Leupold Dot), Leica Range Finder, Combined Technology 50 gr bullet, Winchester Brass, CCI BR2 primer, 41 gr RL15, 4,003 ft/sec.

awesome. ive just gotten into this game. ive got a savage model 12 f/tr chambered in 7mm rem mag. not sure how things will turn out. can't wait till it warms a bit. it's been sub zeros a few times lately. i used to like the winter. got .71 3 shot groups at 250 yards. gun should be able to do something.

i was wondering about that post cliffy posted. i work in a mine so i hear so many crazy stories that i don't even say anything any more. thatd be a pretty good shot with such a small caliber. l ;D i hope to just get a ground hog at 450 or 500 before the summers over. thanks for the posts.

943 yards in Wyoming. Used a Ruger #1 with a custom Krieger bbl. and muzzle break in 6mm Remington. Gunsmith - Mark Penrod in Indiana. Also has a custom stock and a Burris 20X scope

I bagged a P-Dog in Western Kansas at 1020 yards, confirmed it with my Garmin. The gun is a Rem 700 VLS chambered in 243, shooting 105grn A-Max, with a VX-3 8.5x25x50 Leupold on top. Congrats to everyone on their great shots!

Thanks,
Matt

Using an Ar-15 in 223, 55 grain Nosler bt. my son made a 875 pace shot on a p.dog last year. It took him 2 shots to get dialed in, the third sent him to the pasture in the sky. We could not laser the truck with an 800 yard range finder.
I suspect it was close to 875 yards as he is 6 ft. 4 inches tall.

I SOOOOO wna to go pdog hunting! We ain't gone any here!

My best was 3 Starlings in 4 shots at 172 yards with 69 SMK in 223....

Seems fitting that on Groundhog Day I am making this submission. In the 1980s had permission to shoot g`hogs on a golf course in a very rural part of southern Ontario. They were turning the fairways into obstacle courses. Went in at dawn and shot for an hour before the members showed up.

One shot was on an elevated tee down a par 5 fairway so I knew the exact distance. Shot prone with a sling. Nailed the little fur ball at 430 yards. May not be as long a yardage as the previous submissions but probably more realistic for the average shooter.

Used a Ruger 77 heavy barrel in .220 Swift. Load was Herters 104 (remember that) with a Sierra 50 spbt. Incredibly accurate load. Beauty cartridge. Just bought another Swift in a Rem 700 VS SF. Beauty rifle.

Not first shot connections, if thaat is the intention of the thread. The first pd was taken in less than a dozen shots though ;D
Longest Kill 1590 yards. 6-284 Center-grip XP-100, Broughton 5C, 115 DTACS.

Longest Hit on a pd - 1800 yards (we didn't drag the dog out of the hole, but sscoyote reached in with his hand to see but couldn't go far enough. You can see the blood, but that's it.
