What was your longest 223 varmint shot?

605 Yards Savage 112BVSS. 50 grain Hornady V-max behind WW brass, CCI 400 Primer and 26.5 grains of Benchmark. Hit on the third shot. Was down very far on my scope reticle on the Redfield 6-18 with no wind blowing. Another dog popped up on the same mound and I hit that one on the first shot.

What was your longest 223 varmint shot and what kind of load did you use to achieve it? Rifle and scope?
Myself , I've consistently killed 500 + yards multiple times and my longest was 617 with a 70 grain Berger with a stiff load of target behind it. It went straight down and the tail went straight up ! 9 twist

I tagged one back on 23 September at 700 yards. Rem 700 ADL with Berger 52 grain and H4198 at 21. grains. NF NXS 3.5-15X50.

I can back up the FJVance shot... saw it happen, then sent him to the hole with the rangefinder to measure back to the pickup. We had a great week with lots (100s?) of dogs in the 350-500yd range with Frank's 6x41 Wildcat (like a long neck Dasher), a 260 Rem, my old 22-250 ADL (5 in a row at 400+ on one good streak!). We fed the badgers short range dogs (less than 300yds) with a steady dose of 22 Hornet pills. The Hornet was a little lackluster on terminal performance at its limits, but still effective.

My personal best measured 698 yards to a bloody hole with a short-range 6PPC bench rifle. The holdover in a 45x Leupold was the full sight picture of the scope -- held up until the hole just disappeared out the bottom of the scope.

Not me, but a friend killed ground squirrels with a Rem 700 Varmint in 1977, 26g of H335, 55g Sierra semi point, Tasco 24x Unertal type of scope. Shots ranged from 500 and the longest shot was 800 long steps, one shot only taken on this ground squirrel on the side of an oak tree! Best shot that I have ever witnessed in my life, Gary Bird....well done! The area was North of San Diego, large open ground with giant boulders scattered. Squirrels were sunning themselves on the boulders on Frank's ranch.

Porcupine 906 yards ranged with a vector IV, 75 grain eld, 8208 xbr, 2875 fps, bartlien 1-7. Was on a coyote set, and found it while glassing for incoming coyotes.

One fellow I shoot with and who owns a gun shop locally managed to whack a Columbia Ground Squirrel at a known distance of 825 yards using 80 grain SMK's from a 223AI. I watched the hit in my scope. Making 1000 yard gopher kills is not uncommon with one of my 6BR's under good conditions. These often take more than one shot for "zeroing"
Gopher it!
