Longest lenght and still be able to mag feed

okay guys im pretty new at this so take it easy on me, my 308 i single feed so this is never a problem but now ive got all the stuff to load for my ar and 223 bolt guns and was wondering if there is a magic number out there that you need to stay under if u want to mag feed? is it posssible to have it so i can shoot the same bullets out of both guns? winchester brass, varget,60 gr horn vmax, 60 gr sierra hp. cci 400. shooting mainly coyotes, hogs and stuff of this nature but still want it as the best acurrate as i can get it. thanks for any suggestions would be appreciated. john.

If you are going to stay with 69 gr and under bullets, you can load the same round for both guns. Just make them fit the AR magazine. Just don't tell your bolt gun what you did. I did it for many years until I got rid of my AR's.

Tom

P.S. Don't forget to full length size if you are going to use the same brass for the Bolt gun and the AR. The AR's tend to lengthen the brass when fired. You may have trouble closing the bolt on the rifle if you don't.

Nope, you need to experiment with your magazine and find the fit for your gun.

Maybe, again once you find the max length for your AR magazine, you'll need to compare it to the max length for your bolt gun.
For saftey, please don't just presume they'll fit

There's really no magic OAL that can be the best for both. You should be able to find a good comprimise length that'll fit both guns so you can just grab a box of ammo and go, but even in my limited experiance each gun is a creature untoo itself and will have a different "Best" than the other.

That's why I load, so I can tune the ammo for each of my guns and get the "Best" out of each different gun. ;)

Magazine length loads for the AR's are kept at a maximum of 2.255" and used with Lake City & Winchester brass. Box's are clearly marked for AR use. Bolt guns are loaded to whatever length I want, could be .020" off the lands, or touching, Lapua brass only and box's clearly marked for each bolt gun. Simple. ;)
