Long range prairie dog gun

The 6BR is terrific but for what you're wanting I'd go with something bigger. No matter what chambering you choose.... to not worry about muzzle rise and see the whole show, put a brake on it. Also use a heavy barrel with enough straight section at the breech that it can be rechambered a couple times when the throat gets worn.

My next long range varmint build is going to be a heavy,30 lb's+) 300 WSM with a Python Action, 1-11 twist Bartlein barrel with Vais Muzzle brake and Tooley MBR stock. I am going to shoot the 210grn SMK with it's .645 BC. A 6.5x284 would be a good long range build too, however, barrel life is not great that's why I am going to go with the 300 WSM. The 300 WSM barrel life is around 3000 rounds, plus the big high BC 210grn bullets will really cut through the wind.

I have a 22-250 with a 1:8 twist Pac-Nor shooting 80gr SMK's at 3230 fps and just love the way it gets out there. It's amazing how flat it shoots and kicks the wind when shooting pd's out past 1000 yds without much recoil. Compare the ballistics with some of the 6mm cartridges and you'll see what I mean. Good luck and have fun shooting.
