Now I have always had an interest in Long Range Benchrest. Having some good friends who currently compete I started asking questions. With there helpfulness in components for the rifle, rests, bags, and vast amount of experience in reloading and shooting. I built a light gun bench rifle to compete in 600, 1000, light and heavy classes. One of my friends coordinated and helped build me my dream rifle. It looks awesome and shoots even better. The other friend well school started for me. He taught me how to make match ammo, how the game was played, and how to drive that rifle.
So now I have a finely tuned rifle, quality rest and bags, and can load consistent quality-ish ammo. So it is time to get my feet wet. Where better than the NBRSA Nationals. Where else can you get five days of shooting. There was much anticipation on the drive from Bismarck ND to Sacramento Calf. I am not sure how Richard or Terry kept their composure having someone like me in the pickup for 1600miles.
This was one of the most memorable shooting things I have ever done. All living Hall of Fame members were present at the matches. Others who are knocking at the door were present also. So all the people you read about were standing in front of you carrying on conversations with you. A chance of a lifetime to learn. Where else can you find the experience and knowledge of the shooting sports in one place? Man the information that was freely given and helpfulness was beyond belief. I ran into issues while competing, but luckily people like Richard and Terry were there to walk me through the things I THOUGHT I UNDERSTOOD. I really started understanding when you see what problems can occur. I realized my friends like Terry, Richard, Donovan, Dick aren't the exception in this sport they are the standard. I have never saw people so eager to help someone out like this groups of shooters. They want this sport to flourish even if it might cost them a trophy. I love the fact the best shooter wins at the end. Not the one with the best day or group. To agge. under a moa for 90rounds is amazing to me. I am hooked let the addiction begin.
