Long Dasher (6-6.5x47AI)

Grimstod

Machinist, Designer, and Shooter.
Would like some more info on this cartridge (wildcat). I have searched the site for every thing and there is very little info really.

1. Barrel life? I am guessing a little better because of the 40d shoulder.
2. Fire forming experiences.
a. How many times does it take for it to fully form.
b. At what firing does the case stop shrinking.
c. Sizing dies set up.
3. MV with given bullet, powder and barrel length.
4. Accuracy nodes.
a. Is it load finicky like the 6-6.5x47?
b. How was you load development experience after fire forming?
5. Brass life?
6. How thick is the brass once necked down to 6mm?

I been thinkin about askin my `smith if he could run his BRDX reamer in deep enough to use 6.5x47 brass but figured he would think I was crazy,,

I would Love to try the 6x47 with the BRDX neck and shoulder,,

A friend of mine has the 6x47 improved and likes it a lot. The groups I've seen have been very good, around .25 MOA at 100 yards. His is a 9twist and he is shooting the 87 vmaxs with RL 17 around 3400 fps.

In your picture it looks like they retained the original shoulder on the Improved. I think you don't need the added capacity over a Dasher. I can see Improvement if you just had a longer neck on the Dasher. It should make the barrel last longer and give you a little more neck to chase the lands. Matt

Dkhunt. The reson I am contemplating the long dasher is that from many sources they are saying that the 6-6.5x47 is load finicky. How ever one gentelman has told me that using a 40d shoulder fixes this and makes it more tunable. That is my primary interest.

Grimstod...
I too am headed down the "long" Dasher road. I am currently shooting a standard Dasher with pretty good results but wanted something a little different. I specd out reamer dimensions and ordered reamers...chamber and size die. They are due mid February. I have trial formed cases with stuff I have on hand and didn't encounter any issues. I think it'll be even easier after I get the size die reamer and make a dedicated form die.

Keith,
How about sharing info on your reamer compared to the existing reamers already available in the so called" Long Dasher" There has been several different threads posted before on the 6x47L Improved. How is yours different? I am considering ordering reamer myself and have received a copy of the reamer print that JGS makes. Just to compare.

Thanks
George

Hi Keith. Please keep me informed on your progress. I am very interested in this design. You can PM me too. I want to order a reamer soon. Also a sizing reamer to make dies. If you are making something similar perhaps you could even sell me a die. Will your be a tight neck design? I plan on turnin the necks of my brass.

I tryed a 6 - 47 with 45 should . 3 months later . I made it my first dasher . My BRX turned into the second dasher
I tryed every combination of primers powder and bullet . I never got anything I wanted . It was a .250 gun at its best . Larry

I'll be happy to share my reamer specs after I get barrel fitted and a resize/form die made. I didn't look at any other "long" Dasher reamer prints so not sure how my variant is similar or different from previous versions. My reamers should be here 2nd week of February. I already have a die blank, barrel and action waiting. After the other stuff arrives I should have valid info soon after. My reamer will require minimal neck turning. Anyone interested in updates after I get bullets down range PM me with e-mail contact info and I'll start a list.

Well, that sure kills the conversation on that subject.

Carolina-

I'm not trying to be a smartass...at this point I still have more questions than answers about whether what I want to do will work or be feasible. Until I actually get reamers and test case forming in earnest and get at least one range test its all a wisp of smoke at this point. If it pans out I'll put you at the head of the list to get every bit of info.

Curious if you followed through with your Long Dasher build? I am particularly interested in hearing what you are using to resize your brass. I have chambered a Long Dasher and fire formed several test cases. I need to order a resizing die and would like to hear how you resolved that issue. Thanks!

Yes I will. It will take some time to get an action though. Everyone seams to be back ordered these days.
The reamer is being ordered as a set. One for resizing and the other for the chamber.

Good to hear your project is progressing. In retrospect, I regret not ordering a second reamer for a resizing die. Are you planning on using a Newlon blank?

PTG makes the die blanks that my smith uses. One small quibble I have with PTG though is that their die blanks have a pronounced banana shape to the through hole.

That's exactly the way I been thinking... What's the neck length difference between the Dasher vs. BRDX?? I posted up a while back about my interest in forming one of the Improved 6mm's neck/shoulder onto a 6x47L case.. It would be neat to try all the different configurations to see which one has the most promise..
