Loads for 75gr V-Max and 70gr Nosler BT?

Hi guys,

I am brand new to the 6BR thing and can't wait to get going with it. I have a Savage LRPV with a 1 in 12 twist. I will use it as a 400-600 yard prairie dog rifle and do a little casual target shooting, no competing.

I would like to start with the 75gr V-Max and 70gr Ballistic Tip. The powders I have are V 135 and H4895. Can you guys give me starting and favorite load info for those bullets and powders?

Also, if you have any pet loads for the LRPV with different bullets and powders, I would love to hear those, too.

Thanks in advance!

Before you go out and spend a bunch of money on powder, bullets, primers, etc etc that everyone is going to recommend..... Try the two powders you have extensively. Both are very good powder for your intended purposes. Great choice in bullets too.

Personally, I think you're on the right track with what you have. :) WD

I used this one from the 6 BR Info page here. Just scroll down to the "Favorite Varmint Loads 40 to 87 grain bullets" section. Plenty of great info on that page. All I can tell you about this load is that all 5 shots went into one very small hole at 100 yards.

Best of luck and report back,

Please be patient with me, I will get it right eventually. I was speaking about the load for the 70 grain Ballistic Tip on the 6 BR Info Page. 32.7 grains Varget, 205M primer, Lapua brass, seated -010 to 0.015 off the lands. Velocity 3300 fps.

There, at last. Unless I have managed to mess this up yet again.

My favorite load for my 6BR is - Lapua brass, 30.0gr. Varget,CCI-450 primer, 87 - V-max seated .010 into the lands. This load will agg. under .250 if I do my part. Hope this helps. Paul. 8)

You will have a lot of shots 400 and under.

May I suggest the 55g Sierra Blitz king, 55g Nosler Varm, 55g Nosler Ballistic tip, 58g V max with AA2230 and Rem 7 1/2's. Accuracy will be a bug hole or minute of p. dog head at 300 yards and less with velocity in the 3900 fps area.

Barrel life with AA2230 is twice of other powders, at least. 65g V max at 3500 is nothing to sneeze at with some beautiful helicopter acrobatics from twisted up p. dogs. 70g tnt is a fabulous bullet, but you start to see the trajectory get higher arcs, and H335 is fantastic. The 70g Sierra Blitz kings are the most explosive 70g Bullet.

Cleaning frequency with AA2230 and H335 is every 300 rounds.

The Sierra 55g Blitz kings at 3900 will make some memories, near and far.

Varget and H322 had some serious powder rings in the barrel around 125 rounds...Jb got them out.

I am shocked if not amazed by the accuracy I have seen with the 75 VMax in a 13.5 twist. I have 8 lbs. Varget, so that is what I have been working with.
