Loading for a LOOOOONG throat 30-06 target rifle

1 in 10 is the twist rate. Its a single shot so no magazine so length is not an issue. I have played around with lots of powder and bullets but nothing seems to work that's way i was thinking of going LONG on cartridge length (the one thing i have not tried).

I have a vintage Target rifle in 30-06 and it has a very long throat.

We can talk about it or we can discuss fixing it. I have no clue what a 30/06 chamber is with a long throat. I have checked chamber with long throats; I have found chambers that were so long when testing I pushed the bullet out of the neck of the case before the bullet hit the lands. And then there was that period of time they thought they understood what Weatherby was talking about when he said he had 'free bore'. Wheatherby published the amount of free bore.

Anyhow, I am the fan of free bore, I am the fan of the running start and I want my bullets to have that jump, I can not help you if your rifle has a very long throat.

Its funny that you mention Weatherby, there is a strong connection between the manufacture of my rifle and Weatherby (in the early years).
