Load Testing - E Targets

I see many paper targets that are taken home and evaluated. Group sit nicely next to each other etc. It looks easy compared to using an E Target system.. taking photos of groups or trying to find different / consistent aim points on an e-target. I may be stupid I don’t know but there must be an easy way with e-targets.

Any advise or methods for e-target use would be appreciated.

If you're using a ShotMarker... read the manual, page 10.

If you want more than that, you're going to have to export the data to a spreadsheet and play with the numbers - just like if you measured them all by hand and typed them in. Except without all the pesky squinting at calipers and transposing digits.

Thanks I’ll look that up, I shoot at Deade Zero and we can’t go out on the range and we use provided i-pad…. Thanks

Not sure about the local range rules... I'd bet that they are supplying ipads for people who either don't have a tablet or don't know how to use one. iPads are (mostly) idiot proof. But I'd be very surprised if they have it locked down to where you can't connect to the exact same access point (open wifi named "ShotMarker) and open the web browser of your choice on *your* phone, tablet or laptop (Chromebooks work great for this) and see the exact same target images, take screenshots directly, save the string data (the actual shot hole locations, and all the associated info) directly to your device. They *might* have things restricted to keep idgits with fat fingers from screwing up the system config or their neighbor's target - but I'd wager if you *ask* they will be able to help you out.

Here is a picture of one of mine. I have five 1” dots going across the target, 8 ring to 8 ring, at the X ring elevation that I use as aim points for my various powder charges/seating depths/tuner settings. I shoot them left to right, box them to get the stats then simply screen shot the results. No need to get into the back end data. I also have a yellow pad with me where I jot down the speeds for each group from my chrono.

If you can’t go on the range, you could simply use the rings or your reticle hash marks as your aim points.

This is a nice solution.. I’m getting some great idea and examples. Thanks

Turn windage knob a couple minutes left of center, then off to the right, then up then down. Just like shooting multiple groups on a paper target.

That's pretty much what I do when shooting on a 'regulation' black HP target. I'll pick one aim point, zero the gun, then dial off to where I want to start and then just work my way along.

Just remember to go back to center/center when you're done!

Something else I've seen other people do (@F Class John I think) is to keep one aim point, shoot a group, measure it, mark it, but don't *save* it yet. Use the UI to 'hide' the shots. Fire your next group. Measure it, mark it, and hide the shots. Rinse lather repeat. Then at the end, you can got back and unhide whichever sequence of shots you want to compare with, and you basically have the two groups overlaid right on top of one another - direct comparison. Or, unhide *all* the shots, and see how much your loads actually differed over the entire sequence - seating depth, charge weight, neck tension, whatever. Might find that there really isn't as much going on as you thought - or maybe you'll find something worth exploring further.

That might be a little... advanced... for the OP, but maybe of use to someone else reading along.

Are you comfortable with Excel?

If yes, then have the RSO show you how to download and save the CSV file.

If you screenshot the target and download the CSV file, it is trivial with Excel to do anything you like, but this assumes you are comfortable with the spreadsheet manipulation.
