Load for .223 Savage 10 FP

Asking for a friend,he has a new sav 10 FP in .223,9 twist, looking for a few, killer paper loads,to try for him. Thanks Neil

this is the load I use in my 10fp. 26gr. Varget, rem or win brass, cci 450 primer, either sierra 69mk or hornady 68match. This load is used by many shooters to good results. Primers are a personal preference. Picked up the load here on the forums a while ago. 2.260 OAL. Also 23.7-24.0gr. varget w/ Berger 73gr. Match bt. Can also use Berger 70gr. vld's but seating depth has to be played with.

So far my .223 american classic likes the 75gr Hornady HPBT. It won't win any records, but it is consistently a .6MOA gun with Varget of all charges from 22.5 to 24.4 with more room to go up. It is the only bullet I have tried that will reach the rifling with a reasonable amount of bullet in the case. I need to try higher charge weights because at 24.4, the group was .3 MOA vertical with .7 windage. I did not compensate for wind.

A load that works VERY WELL for me in my Savage 10FP 223 is 24.5 grains of H4895, Sierra 69 grain MatchKings, Lapua cases, and Wolf Small Rifle Magnum primers. I load it .030' off and it consistently shoots unde .5 MOA out to 300 yards.

Savages - the best buy for the money.

Ditto for the 69 gr. Sierra HPBT MatchKing in the 1-9 twist Savage mdl. 10: it just seems to be the 'do anything' bullet of choice, and the one recommended by Savage when I bought mine new in August 2000. Burned out that barrel & replaced with a Hart 1-8, and the #1380 is the 200 to 400 yd. favorite in that barrel also. My standad of performance is a bullet that will consistantly produce sub MOA 5 shot groups at 200 yd. over a period of years, not a 'one group wonder', & the 69 Sierra continues to do that. Also tried the Hornady 68 gr. HPBT, and while good, the Sierra was always better. 25.5 grs. of the ever reliable Varget is usually the choice of powder, and primers do not seem to matter: they all work.:)

This is a picture of 3 rounds @ 95 yards through my Savage .223 in 12-FV with 9 twist. 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, 25 grains of Varget, COL 2.332,with hornady bullet comparator), velocity is 2950 fps. CCI primers . . .
