Load data for 75gr .223 for 1:8 twist barrel

New to board. I’ve been having difficulty locating load data for 223 in 75gr. Open to suggestions. Was looking at using Hornady ELD 75gr and RL 15, however I’ve not made up my mind.
Thanks.

With the 75 grainers I use 23.5 grains of h4895 in both my ar-15 and my bolt gun.. As you know each has a sweet spot and start low in charge.... later

Try CFE223, I think I started at 25gr and worked up. Fed primer, around 26 gr of powder, I'm getting 3150fps out of a 7 twist.

Thats the "problem" with the 223, so many good powders to try. What powder do you have? Rl15 has put down some small groups with my 80s and 88s. Varget is another to look into.

Make sure to check your C.O.A.L. before loading these

Thanks for quick response!
Couple of follow up info and Q’s.

I have been shooting Berger 70gr, over 25gr of Varget (compressed and hot) but no real signs of over pressure. I had very good results out of la-pua brass, but last time I shot I had to hurry and buy new (SL)brass. The neck tension was no where near the same nor consistent between the new cases, which gave me poor accuracy over all. I want to move to a heavier bullet that will hold inside of 4inch target at 400yrds. (maybe the 70gr can acheive that?). Just looking at what others shoot and load, it’s obvious to me heavier bullets perform better at longer ranges.

And comment to another posters remark about pizz poor ELD, yes I was trying to go less expensive in looking at the ELD, reviews are pretty strong on midway.
Bergers .35/pill isn’t resting to well with my pocket book funds : (
Also, Varget does’t meter well out of my auto charger, usually have to dump overcharges every 3-4loads, a real pain, so wanted a ball powder.

This load is for bench shooting. I’m not concerned with COAL, as much as I am with CBTO.

Thanks again, keep it coming.

From Hodgdon website, like I said, I am loading longer c.o.a.l.

The stability factor for the 75 gr ELD will be low from a 1:8, especially on a cold day, so you would be better off using the the 75 gr BTHP Match; it's also better suited to loading to mag length. I've been shooting the 75 gr A-Max and BTHP for decades with no problem, and get 1/2 - 2/3 MOA groups all day every day; that meets my needs for High Power and Long Range, and is primarily limited by my benchrest skills. Since you're looking for sub-MOA performance, the Hornady 75s should be fine. I get solid performance with Reloder-15, but can get a bit more velocity with VV N-550; that's critical for 1000 yards as it's just enough to keep the A-Max supersonic.

Have seen some very impressive results with ELD's out to 600 yards. Kind of depends on what discipline he is shooting, which he has not said.

Very true, and every rifle is certainly different. For me... I saw enough from two different rifles that I wouldn't recommend them to anyone shooting competition. I changed from them to the higher priced bullets and frustration turned to ear to ear grins immediately. The end result was shooting less rds to compete, and winning matches.

The BC and the price drew me in, but if they don't shoot... BC doesn't mean much. This is just my experience with about 600 of them thru two rifles, your results may be different.

When I say mag length, I'm loading for wyatt mags. they are longer than standard length.
This is why I don't ask for information on this board now. Lack of details, like, I am using extended mags, do not load to standard magazine length, could very well cause someone (a new or inexperienced loader) to have some significant and possibly dangerous pressure issues. My advice to anyone reading this is, trust nobody but yourself and double check everything against known standards. Very good information to be found in this forum. Just as much crap that could get you hurt.
