Little cleaning rod tip- project of the week

I had a friend who was a full time welder at an aircraft shop. When I saw the style they were selling
from Sinclair(I think), I brought him a picture and a case of beer and he machined/welded me up 2 of the 2 rod holders out of AC aluminum.
I tapped the machined boss at the one end for a nylon bolt and this clamps(finger tight) against the brass ferrule near the handle on my Dewey rods to keep them from falling out of the tubes. One set for .22 and one for .30.
Had these for 10 or 15 years now. They wouldn't have been cheap to order, $80-$100 each IIRC...I got off easy.

You know, in a passive setting where you aren’t transporting the rods and carriers one could mill a slot down one side of the tube slightly wider than the rod and you wouldn’t have to pull it out of the pvc the full length of the rod. The rod guide would keep it in the tube.

Or use the two finger type spring clamp fishing rod holders (sorry if already mentioned - haven't read the entire thread.)

I just found this thread; guess it's never too late to add something! Here's how I mount the holder and retain the rods in our "shooting van". I cut a groove in the aluminum part of the cleaning rods to hold an o-ring that fits into a groove in the PVC pipes. The chamber cleaning rod is a little fancier - the threads on it screw into the pipe. While I'm taking pics, here is the "cleaning shelf" and don't-forget-it list!
