Liking my new 243

First time I've taken my newly built Savage 243 out to distance. It's a factory original Savage action/accutrigger/recoil lug/barrel nut, CBI 24" light varmint 1-8 twist 243 WIN Match barrel with brake, HS Precision stock.

I'm shooting Hornady 105 grain A-Max with 40.8 grains H4350 with CCI 250 magnum primers. Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50 FFP EBR-1. Ran a few shots thru the Labradar before we got started. Shot 400, 600, 800 and 1000 yards. About a 2-3 mph quartering breeze from behind my right shoulder. Dialed 1/2 MOA for windage and 28 MOA for elevation for 1000 yards.

Ran validation with hits on the 400 and 600 yard targets and load runs aprox 3010 fps according to the validation on my Strelok Pro app and 800 and 1000 yards were dead on. Extremely happy with this gun and the load to say the least.

Pics of the Labradar info and my 3 shot group at 1000 yards which measured 4-3/4". 3 for 3 with no misses on my 16" target. Tried my best to hit that little 3" red dot, but I guess I need a little more practice. ;)

Well done! Looks like a sweet shooter! I enjoyed reading your post as I wait for my own savage .243 barrel from blackhole weaponry.

Very nice!

I've never been without a 243win rifle of some sort.

I've had much better results with 210m primers. Tried CCI-250 many times in different cartridges and 210m/215m get me much MUCH better results.

I think you should try the 107smk. They're the most consistent day to day season to season in my current barrel.

Every 243 barrel I had and have shoots better with H4831 than with H4350.

By the look of things, your barrel isn't very picky !

Nice. Congrats. If you don't have a bunch of 105 AMAX, which will be going away, and looking for another bullet the Hornady 105 BTHP shoots great in my .243. I load it with 42.6grns of H4350 with Fed 210 and get 3080fps out of my 26" barrel. Super accurate. I will be trying some H1000 though as I want to keep my H4350 for my Creedmoor.

I will never go without a 243. I have 2 ar10s,a Remington 700 and just got done putting a criterion barrel on a ruger rpr. Everyone keeps telling me to go with a new 6 creedmoor but for some reason i just cant switch over.

The 243 is one of my all time favorites. It was my first centerfire rifle in the late 60's. I currently have four and shoot them a lot. It's an ideal multipurpose hunting cartridge, varmints and deer, the latter with premium bullets. I like the light recoil and flat shooting capability. My favorite bullet is the 85 Sierra BTHP.

I recently picked up a built .243 700 at an estate sale, and put a SWFA 10x mil/mil on it. Took it out for the first time last sunday. I kick myself for not buying one sooner - super accurate and soft shooting with 100 grain handloads.
