115 Tubb in a SAMI .243

Has anyone loaded this bullet in a .243,no molly)? I am currently loading 107 match kings and 105 Laupas for 600 and 1000 yards with 37.4 H4350,BR-2, Laupa case. The Tubb 6mm has a much better BC than the 105 or the 107's.

Bob Blane, any experience?

Hi Chuck,

This is one that I have not had any experience with yet. I am planning to try them, along with the Berger 115gr. VLD's, but with the weather as it is, it will have to wait until Spring. I will be trying them in my upcoming 6/284 that is wearing a Douglas 8" twist that I had Dan Dowling put together for me. I still have to get it stocked, but that is coming down to a couple of choices that I will have to work with soon. I am hoping that some of the others, that have had a chance to try these bullets, could lend a hand with some input. Perhaps David Tubb might help us with some of his insight on these bullets. Are you watching this one David??

Cordially,

Bob,
There have been a large number of shooters have success with a true 8 twist barrel and the DTAC 115. The Berger will need a faster twist and still doesnt shoot very well,"bullet design" HBC says)
I still prefer the 7.5 twist as I feel it shoots not only the 115 DTAC but also the 107 Sierra better.
I believe HBC was using a 7 twist rifle when he shot the small group with the 115 DTAC.
I have also tested the 115 DTAC out of a 6.7 twist and they worked just fine out to 1600 yards.

Hi David,

Thanks for the information! What you are saying about a "true" 8" twist barrel confirms what I have suspected for some time. With what I have been learning about cut rifle barrels, I will not be to surprised if my 8" Douglas would not perform with the 115gr. bullets. I hope that David's post will help the rest of you with the 115gr bullet.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

I agree with David that the 115 works fine in an 8" twist barrel. My experience has shown that out to 600 yards the 8" twist is fine. This is in a Kreiger and in a Schneider, both in 6XC. Currently I am shooting a 7.5 twist barrel and the accuracy is even better. However, the 8" twist barrel still gave me 1/2 MOA out to 600 yards.

I also agree that the Berger doesn't shoot as well if at all. I have never gotten that bullet to shoot acceptably. I have tried and given up on it. The 115 DTAC is the way to go.
