Like some help saving $ and Time on 6BR powder selection

I would like to narrow down the powders to run my test loads. I have a factory Savage Model 12 F Class 8 twist 6 BR Norma.

These look to be the most successful. Should I be trying any others? Powder is so hard to obtain I really dont want to waste effort on powder selection.

In burn rate order

H4895
Varget
Norma 203B
VV N540
RL-15
VV N150
VV N140

Here are some PROVEN performers:

1.) RL-15
2.) Varget
3.) H4895
4.) VV N150 and
5.) VV N540

Any and or all these powders will work very well in 6mmBR.. If one is not at satisfactory levels, another will be.. Depending on your barrel, freebore, bullet(s) and lot(s) of powder, all should work in the 29.0 to 30.4 gr range with a 105gr class bullet. H4895 is the fastest of the aforementioned list and you might drop a grain to start and be very careful of pressure with it and really with all load testing.

It has been my experience with the 6mmBR and the 105 class bullets, that the most accurate powder (for me) was VVN150 with RL-15 and VVN540 right behind..

I started and am sticking with Varget. Bought an 8lb keg. Shot the best group of my life during load work up with my new 6br. I won't think about switching until the keg is gone. Josh.

I have yet to see a 6BR or 6 Dasher that won't drive tacks with Varget. At least in my rifles. ;D

If you look at the 6BR or Dasher and see what the competition shooters shoot, you will see basically 2 powders. Varget and Reloader 15. You basically see 2 primers 450 and BR4. I see more guys shooting Varget with BR4 and 450 with R15. Matt

I've got a Savage 6BR with a 1:8 McGowen barrel. I've had my smallest groups with Varget and H4895. With those being so hard to find I'm going to give IMR 4895 a try. It's burn rate is between H4895 and Varget so it should work well. I also got some great groups with 90 gr Bergers and Benchmark.

Should include VV140 in your list. IMHO and experience the 3 powders I would look at are VV140, Varget, and H4895. Not necessarily in that order.

Based on my experience, and as others suggested, RE-15 and Varget. Both shoot well in both of my 6BRs with 105-107 bullets and 28-30" barrels.

i have shot the 105gr hunting vlds and the hybrids and the 108bt bergers with both RL-15 and varget (which is called ADI 2208 here in oz) in my 6br and both worked well but found the rl-15 to be more temp sensitive and its burns dirty
the varget is the better one imo

Varget, start around 28.5 gr with the 105 and work up slowly. Before you start, send your bolt off to Gre-Tan and have it bushed. That will save you a bunch of time and effort later.
