like some help saving $ and time on 6BR bullet selection

you didn't mention them but I get my best results, 1/2 MOA or better (200 yds), in my Savage 12BR with Berger 90g target BT over 30.5 g Varget.

Funny that. Berger 90BT has been my choice for 200 & 300 position stuff with my 6HAGAR since 2008. Virtually the same case capacity as 6BR too. For 600 it's been their 105VLD, which in my 6XC's shoots 'em awesome out to 1,000 yards.

Today it is what you can find. 105 VLD, 108 BT Berger's , 107 gr. Sierra's are a great start. the go to bullet for accuracy is 80 gr. FB Berger they are great mid range bullet. Very easy to tune. if a gun want shoot the 80's , it's not going to shoot anything. The 90 gr. BT are a over looked bullet, for long range. I have shot them to 1000 yds.

Linko, I've shot many Savage 6br rounds. 105gr Berger Vld or Hybs, for me have been the best at 300 to 600yds. They are had to find right now. (if someone knows where to buy them speak up. ) I have better groups with RL15 and CCI Br4. Key is to find when a bullet touches the lands and work from there. I find 105 HYBs like .003"-.008" off the lands. VLDs like .003 off lands to .006" in the lands. Both will shoot well between 29.8 to 30.3 RL15. Barrel land diameter is the major underlying factor of which load it will like. The bullets suggested are top of the $$ line.(Though not custom) AMAXs and others will shoot pretty good but not normally used in an F Class match. I always practice, load develope, and match shoot Berger VLDs or HYBs..105gr. I've done the (try every bullet thing) try every powder, try every primer,...etc.. NOW every 6BR will shoot the above loads without fail.
My first test would be 105 HYB, .003" off the lands, 30.0 RL15, br4.

Bullets.com has the Berger 105gr Hybrids in stock - in 100ct boxes. I ordered some (asked for same lot number) on Thursday and they shipped UPS yesterday (Friday). I've been waiting for the bulk 500 ct boxes (cheaper than buying quantity via 100ct boxes) to come in - but these haven't been available for many months.

In my 6mm long range BR light gun for the last 4 or so years I pretty much gyrated to 105 Hybrids by berger. Then, after success with 162 A-MAX in my 7mm gun, I tried 105 A-MAX in my 6mm.

Guess what, they did as well as the Hybrids I had been using. And, they are WAY cheaper then the Hybrids! And, you have some! I'll bet it will be a while before you could realize the gain from a better bullet, if they exist!
But then, what do I know, I think my 6BRX is better than my 284 WIN at 1000 yds!

Almost forever the default load for 6BR has been 30 grains of Varget behind a Sierra 107 Match King bullet.

I'd start there if I were you.

Since I'm not my choice likely would be Berger's 105VLD or maybe 105 Hybrid & since Varget can be hard to find I'd try 29 grains of IMR 8208XBR, Hodgdon Benchmark or f Vouri N140 since I already have all of those on in
Seat (whatever you choose) 0.020" off the lands & let us know how it shoots.

I too have a Savage F Class 1:8 6BR rifle. But, I can't run more than 29.2gr of Varget (lapua brass, cci450, berger 105 hybrids) before the bolt is hard to lift and the case is hard to extract. This rifle shoots great with Berger 105VLDs jammed .010 or Berger 105 Hybrids jumped .005.

After shooting 1000's of rounds and endless combinations of components and SD's in my 6 Dasher, I ended up with your exact combination (lapua brass, cci450, berger 105 hybrids). The only difference in my Dasher load is 32.4 gn of Varget. I did find shooting multiple 8 twist barrels that my group results were the same at .020 jump or .010 jam....go figure.

I recently started with the 108 Bergers, Varget and 450s. It looks like they are going to work well. Very forgiving on seating depth and charge weight in my barrel. Everything from 29.7gr to 30.6gr of Varget and between .005" into to .015" off the lands has essentially the same impact position at 100 yds. I like forgiving.

One suggestion on the Berger VLD's--get the hunting version instead of the target version. It has a better BC and has the same accuracy potential as the target.

My opinion is that each barrel must tell you what it prefers. I put 28" 1:8 Shilen 6BR barrel on for the first in 5 years this week. I went back to my test load data from long along. 30.7 gr of RE-15 with new Lapua brass and Wolf SRM primers produced 2950 fps. Once sighted - I shot a 3 shot group in the 0.3s at 100 yards. We moved back to 320 yards and I shot 2 consecutive sub 0.3 MOA groups. In my initial optimization showed that this barrel shot well with the 95 VLDs, 105 VLDs, 107 SMK, and 95 BIBs. RE-15 was a little tighter than Varget. The 107 SMK are easy to tune and I have them in bulk. Something is going to have to change before I switch bullets.

I now have two Bergers 105 VLD & Hybrid and some Hornady 105 A-Max. Next on the way are are some 107 SMK. That will round out my test candidates.

Just built 8 twist (5R)28 " 6 BR. I bought 1000 95FB BIB as thought that would be good for shorter range. Could not get them to shoot for me, then to 107SMK and better. Tried 105 Hybrid and a little better and then the 105 VLD Target. VLD Target was better with seating depth critical in the .003-.006" range. Runs about 3/8" at 200yds, but still not good for me. I am running 31.2 Varget, CCI 450, and Lapua. 2900+ FPS. No turn brass. After over 100+ down the tube still not satisfied with the BR yet.

31.2 is a pretty potent charge. Drop it a grain and accuracy may improve.

My preference is the Hybrid they like to be jumped. So you don't have a pressures spike from the bullet being near or in the lands. Crucial neck tension is gone also. Sierra and Hornady is the same but for me they don't shoot as well for me. Larry

i'm very surprised not many people shoot the lapua 105's ? i tried the siera 107 when they where on they where great but i found them inconsistent for me.i'm using 105 amax at the present and whilst a great hunting /target combination its giving sub .50 its not going to win benchers comps.after using the lap in my 7 mm i intend to try them in the 6 mm in the new year.just got that gut feeling they will shoot.

Mike, BC is a big deal and Lapua may come close to a Berger 105 VLD. But the last ime I checked Lapua cost more $$ and probably will not out shoot the Bergers. When it comes to competition Sierra's and amax's would not even be my second choice.

yes the berger bullets hybrid bc is very good.the lap do need some work trimming and pointing but they are so forgiving in the 7mm with a seating deapth accuracy node of over 70 tho. playing with seat deapth did not really change things at 100 group wise but at 70 tho jump es was sweet.

I've got a Savage 6BR with a 1:8 McGowen barrel. The most accurate heavy bullet I've used is the Hornady 105 gr Match. The 107 Sierrra MKs aren't even close.

First post on this site, so please bear with me. I was given a gift of a new Savage 112 F Class in 6mm BR with a Sightron Slll. With 50 rounds fired, the best group I shot on a 300 yard F Class Face was with Berger 95 grain Hunters. The 105 A Max was just a bit looser, and the Berger Varminter FBs at 87 or 88 grains were looser yet. It would appear that my rifle likes 95 gr. Bergers at 300 yards at this early stage of it's life. When I go to 600 in the Spring, that may change. I suspect your 112 will handle any well made bullet that will stabilize in an 8" twist barrel. Given what they cost, the A Max is a nice bullet. Since I have 400 of them, I'm going to develop a load to use throughout the Winter months, and start developing a good Berger load to use before our F Class League starts. I suppose I'm touting Bergers since I've had great success with them in other rifles, but being a cheapskate, I'm not above trying to make a less expensive bullet perform. Use the bullet that gives you confidence based on your research. It may not be the perfect bullet for your use, but it's unlikely to be terribly disappointing.

Something I didn't see mentioned and would like to point out is if you decide to use Sierra match kings you should consider sorting. I use 6.5 MM in 107, 123, and 142gr. After sorting I got the feeling like two machine driven bullet dies were pumping out Bullets that both dropped onto the same conveyor belt or whatever. Once sorted I end up with two distinct consistent bullet piles. FWIW
