lighter bullet 6BRAI

Link

Silver $$ Contributor
I am looking for less recoil in my 6BRAI 1-8 T. I shoot out to 400 yd. Will going to a lighter bullet than a 104 or 108 work for me? Is it worth trying? If so what do you suggest? I would like to stick with Varget or H4895 as I have quite a lot of it.
Thanks Don.

Id try some of the flat based 80s. They should work fine in an 8 and have a long enough bearing surface for your freebore. Bart makes a flat base and boat tail I believe. IMR 8208 would be a good one to try with them as well.

I have shot 80 FB Bergers in an 8 twist, 104 freebore Dasher. You can reach the lands with this bullet and they are very accurate at 400 yards.

Get an 8 twist barrel use 107 gr Matchkings, Berger's, JLK's or other bullets around that size. If you want to shoot lighter bullets, you can still do it out of an 8 twist barrel.

Would the 80 reduce recoil enough to warrant the try?
thanks

It depends on how recoil sensitive you are. I am not overly sensitive. I am use to being pounded by a shotgun all day shooting trap.
Get a box of 80 grain bullets and see what you think.

I shoot 55 and 60 grain bullets as well, but they start getting beat up pretty bad at 300+ I wouldnt go lighter that 75 for 400

Less recoil in a BR? I wonder whether this is more noticable due to stock design rather than the light recoiling cartridge? I shoot a tacticool type chassis job that pushes straight back and has a fairly heavy barrel. Felt recoil in negligible Just a thought.

For 400yd shooting - how about a 223?
