Leverevolution sub for Varget I'm impressed.

so has anyone gotten some ES/SD numbers for Lever Revolution ?? Charge Weights?

Eric
With a Palma Rifle and Components The top load produced a velocity of 3028FPS 18Fps ES, 6fpsSD with 155gr Palma Bullets. (2156's) This was only a 5 shot group and may not be a true indicator of how it performs.... So far its looking good however.

May I ask what type of brass and primers and the charge weight?
I understand Palma but don't want to assume anything. How is the temp stability of the powder?

Brass: Lapua Large Rifle Primer, .001 neck tension
Bullet: 155SMK (2156) .012 Jump
Primer: CCI BR2

With Varget this load produces a Avg Velocity of 2974fps in this particlar barrel ( Krieger 1:13)

I started at 44gr and worked up to 46.4Grains. I cant say how variable the temp will be as I only tested it once and I only shoot when its 50* to a lil over 100* , there for its almost moot.

The heat index of the test day was 111.2* so if it was going to be an over pressure load.. Iwould think that was the day that it would do it.
Hope this helps.

thats what i wanted to hear i shoot in the awesome Georgia Weather, so the heat does pose a bit of a issue but since you getting good ES ill try to get some

Just got some Leverevolution today. Gonna try to do some load development with it. Really hoping it works out since I have 8lb on order with Brunos ;D

Can you let us know what type of numbers and load data you get when doing work up

Russ, push a few 185s down range!

Glad to hear its working out, I'll have to give it a shot!

I loaded up a few rounds tonight with 155gr SMKs and 45gr of LeveRevolution. I should be able to make it to the range tomorrow to see how they do. If I get time I'll load up some with 45.5 and 46gr of LVR. I will let you guys know what I come up with.

So, I got out to the range today and tested a few loads of LeveRevolution in my FT/R rifle. Mostly I was just looking for pressure signs and velocities, so groups where kept small with only 3 rounds per charge weight. Here are the results I got. A caveat, I do not consider myself a master shooter or reloader. 1/2 moa is about the best I can do from a bipod with a few exceptions. All charges were weighed on a Lyman M5 balance and on a Hornady digital scale. All loads were with Lapua brass, 155gr Palma SMKs and BR-2 primers, OAL was 2.910. All groups were shot at 200yds.

Rifle: Savage dual port target action, Kreiger 30" LV 1-11 tw. Sightron 8-32
Shot from Bipod and rear bag.

Load 1
45 Gr LeveRevolution
Vel: 2869,2856,2870

Load 2
45.5 gr LeveRevolution
Vel:2870, 2888, 2900

Load 3
46gr LeveRevolution
Vel: 2949, 2921, 2933

Load 4

46.5 Gr LeveRevolution
Vel: 2944, 2933, 2948

Best group was with 45.5 gr at 1" center to center. 46.5 gr showed good promise but I pulled the last shot out with 2 shots in 0.75" and the third opening it up to 1.75". Im still learning the handling for this rifle. I am absolutely sure that with some more workup on the load, that this powder will shoot very well in my 308.

46.5 charge has a pretty decent ES for three shots, keep on that track. Check out the thread on load tuning at 100 yards by Erik Cortina.

I will probably load up 5 of each at 46.5, 46.7, 46.9, 47.1 next time I get out to the range, and see how they do. Interesting info in the thread that you suggested.

Glad someone else has seen the merits of shooting it in something else besides a Lever gun. Its a short Grain Varget and meters real nice as well. I tried it in my Palma Rifle and against my standard Palma load of 46.5gr Varget, Lapua Brass, CCI BR2, 155 SMK,
I gained 53FPS over the Varget load without any compression do to the smaller grain size and it shot in the .200 with .2 less grains. This was in the summer of 2011 and I posted my results here with not much fan fair. Ill be playing with this a little more in some other projects as well. Maybe now with Varget hard to get some folks will try it out of pure need as the supply of Varget is kinda dry right now.
XBR 8208 comes out and everyone jumps on it... Mention that Leverevolution will do the same thing and folks kinda look at you funny.
Oh well more for me.

HI Russ, I'm not surprised about the funny looks you get. I got less than a warm reception when i inquired about Superformance Powder in the .260 Rem. So i went with it anyway and now have other people asking about it since it shot the lights out with a 120 gr. A-Max at over 3100 fps. It shoots so good in my rifle that i ordered 8 lbs. and 500 123 A-Max bullets from Powder Valley. SEMPER FI! ...LARRY

mao0720,
Most of us are looking for loads that deliver about 3,000 fps to get the most out of the 2156SMK. Can you safely get to those numbers and keep good groups?

46.1gr 3008fps 29.0fps 10.8fps 1.053” ( 3 = .160!)
46.4gr 3028fps 18fps 6fps .646” ( 3= .285)

Blair

Just some Data from my Palma rifle using the powder. 1:13 Twist Krieger. This was a quick test and not anything conclusive. I have plenty of Varget on hand so I wont be looking further into it for the Palma Rifle but some folks might be really in dier need of a powder for there Palma loads and this may or may not work well for them.

I definately think so. Ill be testing heavier charges next time I make it to the range. I didnt see any pressure signs at 46.5gr, and that is the heaviest load ive tested so far.

Hey Russ. Those numbers will work. Looks like you have a faster barrel than mao, or faster chronograph ;D My interest stems from the fact that i'm half through my last jug of Varget. Think I can get through Camp Perry with what I have but after that I'm going to have to do something. Got plenty of 4895 but most switched to Varget for a reason. Hopefully I'll be able to score some Varget between now and then, but even our distributor doesn't have any. Was hoping that several people would have some luck with something like Leverevolution before I spent the time to work it up, so I'm all ears. Now that I'm retired I have no time :( go figure!!

I just put some on order since reading this and Varget 8# only comes in about once a month and I'm more than 40 down the list on requests for it ::)

Maybe this will come in sooner and I'll get to give it a try in the 223 and 308.

Just shot some yesterday in some fire form loads for the 6mm Fat Rat ( 6mm Grendal). Since its a ball powder it meters perfect for this type of loading. For the 200 and 300 yard stage I like to use a powder that meters well through a Harrel Measure I have. Just dump it and seat a bullet. FOund a sweet spot with it that formed the brass real well and also the AR functuned 100% correctly. It shot a tiny little group as well.( Ill post a couple if I get them off my camera)

I have a caveat.... I mentioned here a couple of times it is not a ball powder... But in fact it is. Not sure what the heck I was thinking before I left for the desert... I tested a bunch of new powders right about the same time and must have had my thoughts about what was what messed up. I can tell you I was suprised when I opened up the jug again.... Lots of head scratching. Reguardless it is still in theburn rate as Varget. It performs like Varget in the cases that I have tried it in so far. The load Density is down however and for that reason I dont think I would use it as my number one Plama Load. Other powders like H4895, N140, N150, XBR 8208 and even AR comp would be better choices. Its important to get that 155gr Palma bullet up to round 3000fps and at 1000 yards your ES and SD need to be as small as you can get them. Just a thought. Damn Im getting CRS.... ( cant remember shit).
