Leupold wind plex for hunting

Found a good buy on a VX2i 4x14,.5x50 wind plex reticle. Was wondering if it would be ok for hunting being it isn't illuminated. Particularly at dusk nd dawn.

There has been game taken dawn and dusk for decades with good, non illuminated, scopes. Illuminated reticles can be a plus if you can adjust the brightness down in low light conditions. On some cheaper scopes, illuminated reticles can be a handicap in low light. I have one such scope on a crossbow and it never gets turned on.

In my opinion your scope will do just fine, especially with the 50mm obj. Most of my rifles wear Leupold glass and i never had an issue seeing a animal during legal shooting light.

what about working up loads and punching paper out to 300-400. Worried the cross hairs might be too thick

400 isn't that far. But, in the end, it's up to you. You're going to have to go out and try it, see if out works for you. Really, that's the only way a guy will ever know. But, honestly, a scope that costs 3x as much doesn't make a guy shoot any better.

That's true. I got a older vx III 4.4x14 x50 (duplex)that I have been hunting with for years. I can also take it range and shoot groups to work loads up. I don't have a problem with the duplex covering up the bull. If I new the cross hairs on the wind Plex was equal to my duplex I wood jump on one. Guess I need to go to a gun store and compare but that's 40 miles. Called leupold today but I was #17 on the tech line so just hung up

I have a vx3i 4.5-14 with the wind plex. It's a great little scope! Super bright! I think you'll like it.

I also have a 3i with windplex and I don't think the cross hairs are bulky at all ... pb my favorite hunting scope behind my mark 4... I plan on buying an identical one to the one I have with wind plex for another hunting rifle next year... and a buddy of mine just bought one today because he liked mine so much ....
