Leupold VX6-HD

im seriously thinking of purchasing a leupold vx6-hd 4-24x52. I was wanting some info on if anyone had used one or been behind one. Looking for tracking and quality of glass, etc. thanks Colby

I have looked through one at scheels don’t know about tracking but the glass was great. Proably better then a nxs. But it’s not going to be as rugged as an nxs but it’s also lighter.

Ive read of a few people having mechanical issues with them, but that scope carries Leupold best warranty so you will be fully taken care of

I have a NXS no doubt it is very rugged that's what has me leaning with leupold is weight the Nightforce is so much heavier. And I know they had issues with the vx6 but I haven't heard any on the HD

well I had the one before the HD model came out a year or two back I had no mechanical issues but I felt it was very dark on over cast days or low light and turning the power down did not help it..On a bright sunny day it looked great but when it was over cast or near dark it was dark and even blurry. I said hun 34MM tube 52mm objective it should not be like that I sent it back to leupold they said the parallax was out of adjustment so they fixed it. well I'm not that stupid there was nothing wrong with the parallax. the scope was the same as when I sent. so I sold it, not happy with the optics on a BIG scope like that. I have a 3-18 VX6 and it's not like that actually I really like the 3-18 so maybe it was just this scope or maybe the HD will fix the optic problem but a 34MM tube and 52MM obj sould not be dark like that..I am not the only person to look threw it and they felt the optics were poor also. If you have a 5.5-22x50 NXS i think you will disappointed in the Leupold i was. now the 3-18 is really good i have one my buddy has two and his dad has one we dial them all the time and we are very happy with the 3-18 but the 4-24x52 was poor optics.

I have several of the 3x18 and 4x24 non HD versions and they have been great scopes for me. They have better glass then my NXS scopes and the HD versions are suppose to be a bit better.

I have found the VX-6HD glass in the 3-18x44 & 3-18x50 to be better in low light than the NXS 3.5-15x50 and a little better detail on an eye chart. Advantages to the VX-6 also in weight, power range, lower profile turrets, and zero stop(2 full turns=40MOA), minus is the clicks are a little mushy. NXS is more durable, more elevation; minuses are heavy, bulky turrets, and the way the whole eyepiece turns when you turn the power is a pain if you have a cap on it. I also get a partially fuzzy image(not totally in focus) when I have eliminated the parallax on 2 of my NF scopes. I don't have this issue with any other scopes. Yes, the eyepiece is properly adjusted.

In 2017 I built a 6.5-06 with a 2-12x42 VX-6HD, and a 7mmRemMag with 3-18x44 VX-6HD.

I shot deer out to 625 yards.
I really liked the scopes.

I too liked them better than the NXS I bought the year before.

I have the 3---18x44 on my long range rifle and really like the glass and tracking, only down side is the mushy clicks. I'm going to send it back and in place of the CDS dial I will have the target dial installed.

Thank you all for the great info I've been wanting one for a while. Just want to make sure it's worth the money spent!

I also have the 2-3 year old model VX6 4-24x52, not the HD one. Used it several hours in overcast skies today and didn’t notice an issue. I have an older VX-6 3-18 and a VX-3i LRP 8.5-25 recent model and a new ATACR 5-25. I will try to remember to have a look through all the next time it’s cloudy, curious now about the brightness issue.

First review I read on the 7-42 on another site after posting here, a guy was complaining about a breakage in his side focus knob with a brand new scope after only 56 rounds fired with a 308 win.. Sent it to Leupold, took them over 2 months to get it back to him, and it still wasn't working right. Not very encouraging to say the least...

I have a VX-6 3x18x50mm and just sent it back to have the 2 dial Zero lock turrets retrofitted to it. Custom shop did a 1st class job, turrets are no longer mushy . very good glass and I'm not a Leupold guy ,but I got a great sale price on this scope. However I think the glass on my Zeiss HD5 5x25x50mm is a hair better. Also I've been looking at the Zeiss V6 5x30x50mm.That will be my next scope

My buddy has one on a BR and I personally do not care much for it.

1/4 MOA windage and 1/8 MOA elevation. I do not understand Leupolds reasoning on that..................

Thanks for the info. Yeah more research turned up a lot of tracking and zero holding issues as well. No longer interested in Leupold.
