Leupold VX-6 Vs Nightforce ATACR

So I have narrowed it down to two candidates. Leupold VX-6 HD SKU#171597 or the Nightforce ATACR C555. The mount will be a Eratac 70MOA adjustable. On a NF 40MOA Base. Out of these two which would you choose and why? If you already own one or the other. What’s your thoughts? Why did you choose it?

I'd go with nightforce. I haven't seen the HD's in the leupold line out in the field, but have dealt with numerous NXS models in the nightforce line. Even looked through an ATACR.

You won't be disappointed in going with the Atacr line.

Go with the atacr.
I had a pile of leupold's. Switched them all out to nightforce nxs and atacr. I am so happy l did. Btw, haven't had to send a single nf back. Most of my shooting buddies have done the same.

The Leupold VX-6HD has motion-sensor illumination on/off and electronic level indicator, which could be nice features depending on how you plan to use the scope.

I have owned two Leupold VX-6 scopes, and was not impressed by the mechanicals of either. The glass seemed very good to me. However, one scope did not track well and had slight reticle cant. The other scope would not hold zero. Both were repaired under warranty and then promptly sold. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy the Leupold!

NF no contest at all in this. Had a VX6 and a new Mark 5hd and have sold them all off to go almost completely NF on all my units.

Had this exact same experience happen. If it doesn't say NF or March, I don't own them.

Nightforce for sure, I have owned and used both and I won’t be buying anything but Nightforce for precision rifles from here out.

There’s a 4-16x50 ATACR for sale on here

I’m not saying the vx-6 is better than a ATACR, but I will say I have a vx-6 that has been perfect on box tests, held POI and never let me down, couple of previous comments make the leu sound like a pos! Everyone has opinions just thought I’d throw mine out there as well!

Just becuase a scope clicks and does a box test at 100 yards doesnt mean it holds POA. When cranked to 1000 there is less pressure on the reticle assembly. I have had scooes hold POA at 100 yards and not at 1000. Matt

I have two ATACRs which I love, but decided to try the VX6HD. Its for a 30-28 Nosler LR hunting rifle and weight was a consideration. I have shot out to 1k and like the VX 6 so far. Ill decide if it is a keeper after this hunting season.

So from your experience there are no vx-6’s that are any good! I shoot this gun out to 1000yrds every year before hunting season, it pretty much hits where I aim! I don’t like to push long shots on game, but it does have one shot kills at just under 800yrds on antelope, maybe you just got a lemon, not trying to argue the point, like I said the ATACR is a great scope, for me it’s also a lot more money. After all, even NF has scopes that have poa shifts!

Everything was just peachy with my VX6 for about 400 rounds. Passed a tall target test with ease, shot a lot of sub 2” groups at 600... all good news right?

Then one day, it kicked a shot out of a group at 100, like 3” straight left. Then the next 3 were about 4” straight vertical.

I spun the knobs a few times hoping to reset it. Then, I shot 5 more. The first two were in a hole and on zero, the next 3 impacted 6” high.

After that, I had the scope repaired (third Leupold I killed that year) and vowed to never buy another. I’ll soon have to break that vow because I need a high gloss finished scope for my Ruger #1. I won’t be dialing it, so I’m not that worried.

as I live in Oregon you would think it would be a leupold but no!! every high priced leupold I have gotten was junk. I sent one back in 4 times and they never fixed it ( bad tracking). thank god for cabelas as they took it back. I now have sightrons and nf. for the money it is hard to beat the sightrons but I love my nf.
