Leupold 36X Repair Question

Get Leupold's offer first if its not what you want don't accept it and have Ackerman fix it. I have a 36 power Leupold and I would have to have no options to give it up, it works great and I would do whatever to get it fixed. Maybe they will offer a discount on a 45 power Leupold. Whit all due respect to Dusty he doesn't speak for Leupold, wait and see what their reply is

These scopes are pretty simple on the internals. The only thing I can think of is the front lens is loose in the mount And has moved. But it would have to move a lot To be out of the range of adjustment.

Jackie , Now that you said that I have something to check tomorrow . rings a bell .

My 35X got a rattle in the tube and the yesterday the cross hairs was busted. I fill out all my online stuff to send it back. I'll call today today and see what the options are.

On the front of the scope the objective lens ring was lose , not the inside lens ring that has the notches to tighten the lens in and this is in front of the Parallox ring .

I could look at it for you, I have all the tools to take the scope apart.
BUT!!!! I hate doing it because those 36x Leupold Reticles are EXTREMELY fragile. They do not like being out of the scope. They are so fine that you can hardly even see it when removed.

.0002 Wire.

I had some glassed etched reticles made from Klarling Rulings to replace the original ones when they didn’t survive being removed. I mount them in the original reticle carrier.

They no longer have parts for the 36 but they will credit you on another scope or send you a 3-9 to replace it
A few years ago I blew apart the insides of an old M8 Fixed 20X. They tried to replace it with a 3-9 and I politely told them that wasn't going to cut it. Guy on the phone said well would you like. I said well at least something that goes to 20X. Needless to say I got a really nice VX3i 6.5-20x40 CDS Scope sent to me for free. Best Customer Service I've ever had.

They love that ole 3-9 trick

Looks like the majority here said to send it to Leupold. Even if they send you a 3x9, still better than junking it.

Sent mine in 2 weeks ago. 36X busted cross hairs. Leupold called me said they had the parts to fix and would have it to me within 3 weeks. We'll see
Did you get your scope back from them? I sent in a 24X with Busted Crosshair as well. They said they couldn't fix it and they would send new scope. I got off the phone with them today. They are sending me a Mark5HD 5-25x56 with the PR1-MOA Reticle. It's item # 176448. I can't say enough for Leupold Customer Service.

Last i heard was Leupold doesn't fix anything anymore. They simply replace it with what they think is a close approximation to what you have. Call Optical Services and see what they can do for you. This is Bill Ackermans Company which is now in the hands of his daughter Cheryl.

The company info is: Optical Services Co.

How odd… sent in 2 FX series in the last 6 months and both came back reworked and fixed….

If you mean they can’t fix 40 year old scopes… that is possible. Ford doesn’t have the A/C knob in stock for ‘62 Fairlane anymore either…

They are hands down the best warranty in the business over the life of their product.

Are there things they used to do they can not anymore? Yes. Does it make financial sense for them to do them? No. That is why they don’t.

Ya’ll better check with Cheryl before just sending her scopes to repair. I believe right on her web sight she states she does not repair anything other then old Weavers. Everything else is just a reticle change or power bump.

sent in a 36x bought in 1980 they did not have parts to fix and they sent me a new 45x.......thank you leupold
exactly why you ALWAYS want to at least send it in and see what they say. I sent in one of my really old vx-2 6-18 with target knobs and target dot last year due to it appeared to have lost the charge and had a film inside front lens. It was still shooting fine but I saw that and thought better get it in sooner than later as it's one of my fav varmint scopes. Came back totally as new functionally.

I have only had to send one scope back to Leupold and they did right by me. It was a 6.5-20x40 with a target dot. Some how I bumped it and "sorta misaligned" it! (see the pic) I sure don't remember hitting that hard. I also thought they were one-piece tubes. Clearly there's an aluminum insert inside, presumably with adhesive of some sort. Maybe the adhesive failed over the years and a slight bump was all it took.

So I sent it in and as expected, it was unrepairable. They sent me a 6.5-20x50 LRP scope. By all accounts a nicer scope. But I couldn't get a target dot. So I accepted this: https://www.leupold.com/reticle/cch/

That was a blunder of the highest magnitude. It looks like a screen door. I can barely see the target through the clutter. Adding insult to injury, there's no changing it - the Leupold custom shop is closed until further notice. Nice of them to give me a better scope, but for me, it's unusable. Can't change the reticle, can't even buy one with a simple dot. What birthed this trend to cluttered reticles anyway?

I have perhaps 20+ rifles with Leupold scopes. Sadly, that's it. My go-to scope is now Nightforce.

Feel free to send that scope with the CCH reticle to me, I'll put it to good use.

That reticle is busy but I wouldn't trade my Tremor 3 or other tree style FFP scopes for anything. Most of the time I don't even notice they are there unless I'm checking for impact for the quick follow-up or ranging something.

That said, I also wouldn't trade my scope with target dot for anything. Just a dream when working small sage rats way out there where even the thin duplex ones cover them up.
