Let's see your range dogs (real ones, not bad guns)

We lost our dog Ellie that I originally posted in this thread to cancer last year. I have a new pup now. She’s half Feist and half Mountain Curr from squirrel hunting lines. She’s showing a lot of promise on the yard squirrels. I can’t wait to get her in the woods and start shooting some out for her

This thread needs a bump up, so here it is, as sad as it is.
My 24/7 judgmental range assistant, head of security at work, early warning system, alarm clock, etc.
passed away a couple weeks ago. She had been struggling with her mobility and eyesight for the last year or so. After a tumor formed in her ear over about 3 months, it was off to see doc.
After a very hard discussion and the results of a minimal eye exam and basic sample of the tumor, I decided her time had come.
As bad as it sucks, we had 9 great years together all day, every day. The last pic was the last time she was able to get to run around (at Pigg River end of July)) and enjoy it without too much trouble afterwards. Probably one of her last good days

Old saying, "a dog's last day shouldn't be its worst day." Sorry for your loss, as every responsible dog owner knows the feeling.

Reis, she loves to find bullets.
Put her in the house, go outside and shoot any rifle 75 - 100 yards across the yard. Turn her loose and in a few minutes, she will be ripping the grass up were the bullet hit the ground!
Also, will track anything you want!

Lucy, one of my hounds having her way with a chew-toy during a break in shooting out in the rat patch. I kept her in the truck when all the shooting is taking place to protect her hearing.

She's been at the Rainbow Bridge for a few years now, but her memory is very much still alive. Our 'new' hound dogs, Lily and Ruby have filled the void, thank God.

Honestly I have to say that I lost my Eva to cancer about 2 months after the post that a handful of you guys just liked.
I did get another German Shepherd in September of 22 . However I still miss my Eva more than I could ever imagined.
I’m not sure weather or not to be pissed at you all or thank you for the onions I am cutting right now.

This in Bonnie Parker , definitely not a replacement for Eva Braun. Our lives as humans seem so long when compared to the best companions we could ever hope to share our time with.
Photos of Bonnie are from this past winter.
In looking through my phone I see I really need to keep it updated ,our bestest of friends make no where near the trips around the sun that we do in life.
Trying to think about it in rational terms it is hard to understand why any of us would want the kick in the guts every few years when our most loyal companions passover to that happy hunting grounds.

She is my Registered Patrol Animal,
Took years to train her
Being a Wolf, they are very stubborn and make you work for their cooperation
Which is the way I like to look at it
You are not training them, but more ---"soliciting their cooperation."
Encouraging them to do what they do naturally, but in cooperation with your goals.
When we're working or sneaking up on something
She don't Bark, She don't growl, She don't whine
The Perfect Stealth Animal
She is on point right then looking over the edge of an embankment for anything out of the ordinary
before we proceed.
A Wolf's situational awareness is unmatched except for anything but a Coyote or Hyena.
Even when she is sleeping, If I simply sneak up quietly and peek through the curtain at her
She instantly wakes up and looks around is if her 6th sense has kicked in.
It's almost eery.
Notice there is no emotion on her face, even though she is happy doing what she loves.
She is all about business.

I won't have another dog for the same reason. Maggie was the only dog we really bonded with deep down. Maybe because she came after the kids were grown, maybe because of our age. Maybe because she just grabbed our hearts. Her time to go was a gut wrenching blow like no other I've had. Another dog owner asked me one time, 'is it wrong for me to feel worse about my dog dying than my father?'

An additional issue, for me anyway, is that I probably will not outlive another dog. I can't do that to the dog either. We 'inherited' a dog from my inlaws when they passed. The poor thing was miserable for the years we had her.
