Let's see your lasers

Alright... laser engraver money burning a hole in my pocket.

Looking at a 60W MOPA from Cloudray...

Can anyone with a laser share what their work looks like? And if I'm looking at the right type of machine. Big investment.. want to make sure I get the right thing, and understand what it can do.

Nice! Looks like JPT/Cloudray is the same thing... just a matter of the distributor/support. @Countrycustoms - is yours a MOPA laser?
Cloudray is the machine manufacturer, JPT is the laser source.
Mine's not a MOPA. I have mixed feelings on if I should've gone that route or not. The only thing you really gain is the ability to do more colors. If you've got the budget for it you may as well have the option.

SFX 60w jpt with with the 2.0 mj laser source seems to get great ratings
I ended up with a Mactron 80w m7 so far so good. There customer service is amazing

Mine will be here end of this week. Been an 8 week wait. It's a 30W Fiber FM Station. This one:

I've got a bunch of parts to engrave before I can do barrels on it but hopefully can show something soon.

I'm also looking into purchasing a laser and there are a lot of options to choose from. Leaning towards something in the 50 watt range but haven't decided on a fiber or mopa style. I see some say they have purchased the rotary with their machine but don't really use it. I also don't hear much talk about 2 vs 2.5 vs 3 d laser designs. To the guys that already have them are your lasers just 2d lasers? Would a 3d style just be spending extra money for something not really needed?

The 2.5D lasers look really cool. If you were using the laser as a profit center and needed it's specific abilities... go for it, but they're a LOT more expensive.

You can do 2.5d in Lightburn. I do suggest getting lightburn and using that instead of ezcad.
Get the rotary when you purchase the laser, it's usually a better deal. I do use mine though not often.

I’ve been watching this thread and trying to come up to speed so I can order a fiber laser engraver to mark caliber and neck dimensions on the barrel for rifles I will build. While some of the work shown here is amazing, I know that I will more then likely never have to time to delve into the art of engraving to that extent. I have listened to hours of the Laser Everything YouTube videos but they are still above my pay grade and it will take me too long to come up to speed and purchase a unit without some help.

So what would be the experienced users recommend configuration be for my use. Here is what I think my needs are to date:
1) Simple marking of barrels and possibly some actions. I do not plan to do this commercially, but to use it as a tool to mark my work and give it a professional look.
2) I’d like to purchase the unit from someone who has already imported it to the US so I don’t have to mess with customs.
3) Given my limited computer skills I am willing to pay for good customer support and service.
4) From what I’ve read I think I will need a 50w fiber laser and would be best off running Lightburn software
5) I am hoping to stay in the $3,500 - $4,500 range if possible.
So given this info, am I overlooking anything critical that I should consider?
Which company would be the best fit for me?
How would you configure the unit and what accessories would you recommend to purchase with the unit?
Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.
Joe

It’s operational!
