I have been watching your videos for years ( have watched them all ) and just want to say “ thank you “
I owned a Blaser R93 for many years and found your channel when searching for Blaser content on YouTube.
I have sold the R93 now and I miss it sometimes, but I find the traditional bolt action just easier to live with .
Your .221 Rem has me wanting to build something similar, I just think that it is a perfectly sized walkabout small game rifle .
I use a .223 currently , but I need to lighten it with a new stock .
Here is a photo of my last sighting in group with it . It doesn’t always shoot that good so when it printed a tight group perfectly zeroed how I wanted I just stopped shooting at paper and started carrying it with great confidence.

This 722 was a pawnshop cheapo back in the 90's. A .222 and it came with that modified bolt. Looks a bit strange but works very well. I cut away part of the tang like 700 is so a 700 trigger and safety would work without modifying the stock. The stock was much bulkier and wider, trimmed a lot off the forend and did quite a bit of reshaping what had been a fat bulky grip section. The barrel is new take off Rem. .223 that shoots very well and is unusually fast. Riton 6-24 scope in Signature Zee rings.

Thanks for taking the time and sorry for the poor quality in the earlier films. It's only recently I've had time to sit down and learn filmmaking. This season will focus on windcalls and hopefully improving image quality at the target. I got fedup with poor image quality after this years mountain hunt.

I'll just say that my 221 Fireball has been an exercise in wasting money to reach the performance you already have with your 223.

With hindsight I should have sold my Rem700 and gone custom from the start OR just minimized the build. This season I discovered the open construction of the trigger house is vulnerable to snowdrift, so that will be another $300 to "fix" and I achieve nothing more than basic reliability.

So my recommendation would be to think carefully what your desired endstate is for your 223. But if you're wanting a light walkabout rifle, a mountain hunter friend from NZ built a very light and fairly short fast-twist 223 to shoot the heavy Hornady ELD Ms. It punches way above what you'd expect and he really clocked in all the goals with his desired endstate. I tend to fail on my builds (too heavy, not legal, difficult to source components, fail to keep budget, not precise is just some of the mistakes I've made at $$$$ expense)

That’s interesting about the snow in the trigger, I would never have thought of that being an issue but then I live in Northern Australia and snow isn’t on our radar .
I think I may have an idea of the guy in NZ you are talking about because I’m a member of a NZ forum and if it is the same guy he has had great success with those 80gn projectiles on Deer/ Thar/ Chamois.
I live in both Australia and NZ and up until Covid spent six months a year in each country but haven’t been back to NZ for two years now .
I’m licensed and own firearms in both countries and my 6.5x55 which is my NZ rifle must be feeling very lonely and abandoned at the moment.
I fully understand your experience of over spending and not getting the desired results on assembling rifles, but that is the fun part of the exercise because it leaves you wanting more. : )
