I bought this one new in the box almost 30 years ago. It's taken everything from pronghorns to feral hogs with stacks of yotes and prairie dogs. It will still put them in one tight group. Remington 700 Varmint Special in 6mm REM with Leupold QR bases and VX-III 6.5-20x40.
This one I built myself. Spikes lower with CMC trigger, ARP .243 LBC barrel, Duramag magazine, S.S.A.L.T mount, 6.5-20x50 Simmons Whitetail Classic . I bagged this Axis deer with it a few weeks ago.

Somehow, this is one of the ones which Remington got right the very first time. I've owned a couple of these, one for a very long time, with both shooting lightweight varmint bullets into tight little groups. Now, I will admit that you don't even consider any form of rapid fire, especially if you're onto a large town of prairie dogs. Be sure to have a backup rifle or rifles to allow for cooling down. This is a superb rifle.
here is my Tikka T3 Super Varmint .222 rem. With GRS Sporter laminate stock, Sako TRG Bipod, 2-stage trigger, Atlasworx aluminium trigger guard/bottom metal. Scope is Steiner Ranger 4-16*56.
Just shot one black grouse after this picture was taken. Weather was sunny, at morning it was -5C degrees. Just a perfect weather for hunting grouses.
Below is just one picture about my usual hunting grounds. Quite wet, pine forest. Usually you have to walk 10-15km at least.

I got one of them Remington 700 5r in 300 win mag that everyone says won’t shoot... 215 Berger hybrid is pretty salty, not only that but my 200 accubond load shoots just as well maybe .050” larger at 100 yards.

Do you have the 24 or 26" barrel? What's your velocity with the 215gr?
I have the 24" model, the only thing I've got to shoot well is 200.20x and 77gr H1000. ( just found that load today actually).
I loaded up to 79gr for next time to see if there's another velocity node.

I have the 24” I was looking for a load for another rifle I had and had copied some off several forums. I ended up at 77.5 of H1000 with the Berger and 77.2 with the accubond I also have a retumbo load of 78.7 grains that will shoot one hole as well. Velocity is around 2850 for the H1000 and 2790 for the retumbo. I am also shooting without a brake, I found the brake was making groups open up, plus I don’t wanna blow my ears up by taking a quick shot at a hog or deer..
Years ago I bought a Vanguard 300WM, it came with the upgraded stock and the sub MoA group target from Howa. Time was before Vanguard had the sub-MOA floor plate to charge more money for the same rifle. I hated to shot that hard recoiling skinny barreled 300WM. I fired 5 rounds and it stayed in the safe ever since.
Fast forward to a month ago. I was invited to go on an Elk hunt in CO. To mitigate the recoil for the sake of my shoulders that are scheduled for replacement this coming year, I decided to install an APA Gen3 MicroB. What a difference did it make. Here is a video I saw that convinced me to go the APA route, incidentally their test piece happens to be a Vanguard. FULL DISCLOSURE, I am not employed nor associated with APA.
One of my lathes is pretty handy for shorter barrels and muzzle threading without taking the barrel off.
Before the scheduled trip, off to the range for the final cold bore shots after initial zeroing the previous day. Fired one round, then mess around with load work.
Before packing the Vanguard fired another round on the cold bore target. Range is 200 yards on standard NRA SR-C target. Pictures were taken through the spotter.
Plenty good for mid range shots. Ammo - 185 Elite Hunter, H1000, mag length.
The rig is nothing fancy, scope is an old Nikon Monarch UCC 2.5-10, Timney trigger, and I paid to get it bedded. Barreled receiver is stock
Sad part my Asthma kicked butt that I had to cancel out on the trip.

Here's a huntin' gun I put together. It's a trued M700 long action bedded into an old McMillan M40 style stock with an adjustable cheekpiece installed. Under the camo tape is a Krieger medium Palma taper SS 6.5/284 barrel that I removed from my 1000 yard target gun. I always order the blanks extra long at the breech so that I can cut off quite a bit. This one is now 29" long with a muzzle brake installed. When this barrel was on my Stolle Panda it won quite a bit of stuff at Camp Perry and other places. Wile E. Coyote was dining at the Whitetail Buffet, which is located 210 yards from my front door at 4:00 A.M. A 140 grain Berger Elite Hunter bullet is more than adequate.
