Here is my hunting rig. Rem 788 carbine. 243 18.5" barrel. Leupold 3x9. 95 sst with a stout load of H4350. Pillar bedded and trigger job. North American game animals tremble in fear at the mere mention of this rifle.

My son started deer hunting with me 6 years ago at the age of 14 and fell in love with this Encore 257 JDJ. Nice compact rifle with 17 inch barrel. Parent case is 225 Winchester and NOSLER 100 gr Ballistic tip @ 2750 FPS. Son shot 7 deer in 5 years with it.

Rifle seems to like Sierra 117gr GameKings and Speer 120gr bullets though in factory it shot the Federal Premium 120gr Nosler Partition very well.

I have recently got a good deal on 400gr 100gr Speer Hot Cors which I will try once I shoot out my supply of 120gr bullets. Also going to try the 100gr E-Tip as a non-lead option.

Weather was just great, -6 degrees celsius, little bit snow and no wind at all. 2 black grouses shot today

It's best what you can do here. Elk hunting with dogs is just too easy, black grouse hunting is much more demanding.

Went Old School on this one....

700 action, 6mm Creedmoor prefit barrel, Vortex Razor 3-15x50, laminated stock with ebony forend, re worked 700 trigger under 2lbs.

Original Remington 700 Light Varmint rebarreled Lothar Walther 1:12" 221 Fireball, Gunwerks Clymr stock and Leupold mk5HD 3-18x44'ish with Gunwerks RH1 reticle. Goofed a little on the barrel profile, so it is a tad heavier than I wanted.

Restricted to max 55gr bullet weight. Shoots well with Vit N130 and Norma N200 powders, not so good with RL7. Have barely hunted with it since rebarreling due lack of light.

Finally got my new rifle put together for next year.
284 Shehane (284 Winchester wildcat) with a Kelbly Atlas action, Bix n Andy Dakota trigger, McMillan Game Warden, Bartelin carbon fiber barrel and topped with a Leupold MK5
Whole setup came in at 9# 10oz with bipod. Will be shooting a 180/175 class bullet around 2830

Dang--just saw this thread. I am not going to get to hunt this year. However, I did make a new elk rifle. I chambered a new barrel for an existing rifle. It's a 33-28 Nosler. 225 TTSXs at 3170 fps with RL-26. 8.5 lb rifle, 50 ft lbs of recoil, which is as much as I care to deal with out of a .338 bore.
