Lesson on straight 6 chev engines.

If it doesn't interest you, move on and click on a thread that might ;D

Spot on, this is Butches thread and we all like it, a little refreshment over the politics and what is allowed to say on classified threads, this is a get away from the craziness threads ;) so as the mas said join in or move on we are having to much fun to argue.
Wayne.

Lesson on slant 6 Mopars.

There were 3 different displacements in the Dodge and Plymouth slant sixes, the 170 ci at 101hp , 198ci and 225 ci at 145hp. The first slant six was in 1960. In 1961 they had a low production of the 170 ci and called it the Hyper Pack it had a little more cam and a 4 barrel carb and split exhaust, forget the hp, but it ran 145mph of the show room in a1961 Plymouth Valliant. A real quick six in it's day.

Man has technology changed. The little B16 (about 97 cubic inches) made by Honda was rated at 165 hp in the US. In JDM version, available virtually everywhere, else was rated at 190 hp.

My brother and I pushed my first car (a 48 Chevy) about two miles by hand to get it home.We then dropped in an old 265 two barrel. I thought I was in Chevy heaven until I had to deal with the old closed driveline.

I acquired a Hyper Pack engine in 1985. The block on this one was cast aluminum. If I remember correctly it had an AFB carb. Never bought anything to put it in and sold it.

JRS, I believe my Grandson's Honda SI has 197HP. Pretty peppy car.

Probably didn't get near enough. I was asked to haul some stuff from an old detached garage of a rent house. The only thing of a very little value was a 265 Chev engine and a Powerglide hooked to it. The gem was a complete 440-6 pak. It was complete with carbs and the shaker hood scope. It had a 4 speed hooked to it. Don't tell me what it may be worth today. I sold it for $650. I was very happy at the time. Being in the business I've had a few nice things come my way.
I worked at what used to be called Eero VW-Porsche in Anchorage, Alaska in about 1978 or so. A customer had his 1965 356SC Porsche towed into the dealership. It had a couple valve guides that got loose. He didn't want to spend the money for repair. I bought it for $500 and had some oversize guides made and did a ring and valve job on it. The owner picked it up new in Germany when it was new. The options were the 356SC motor, limited slip differential, European exhaust, heated windshield, and a Eberspacher gas heater. It also had a Grundig [sp] radio and a remote speaker. It was an extra mounted on the rh side of the dash.
I sold it to a young fellow before we moved back to Texas in about 1979. I understand that the Alaska State Troopers confiscated it during a drug bust. It was a medium gray in color.
Now for a nice finders fee, I know where at least 1 complete 4 cam Speedster motor is and also other Speedster parts are stored away. They belong to the same old lady that had this old motor.

Some of you old fools like me know what you are looking at.

How about a little OHC 6 Pontiac? I have a 67 Bird, original 4sp, rearend, fold rear seat, console. It now has a 72 Poncho 350 due to an untimely blowup of the Sprint 6. After 30 years I found a 68 OHC sprint drivetrain, running, original. Started the 45 year old OHC and it ran up to 5200 and back to an idle on a 4bl QJet that had never been rebuilt. The 350 is coming out, the Sprint 6 is going in, and restoration will begin! Ok, call me crazy, but I like it.
I recall the "leaning tower of power" in a Dart. It sounded like a sewing machine with gravel in it, had more oil out than in, but lasted over 200K miles, despite trying to kill it!
To keep the rifle guys happy, I too have had several cars I would like to have shot, with big bullets, many times! All of them were v6 chebby with bad intakes that cost me tons of cash.
Great post, needed the break from the politics. Lets just hope that some greenie does not outlaw motors that smoke!

I am not really old (49) but I know it is a flat head ford, probably a 239 with Ardun heads, but where in the world did you find it? Lots of Offenhauser conversions and a few others but these are rare.
Wayne.

My word, Butch, I haven't seen an Ardun conversion in years, especially one as well equipped as that, and I gave away my last Cad LaSalle tranny in 1967!

My last hot rod hurrah was going to be a a 3100 series Chev pickup, but the 302 GMC 6 I was going to put in it got sold because my buddy didn't know I had located a truck to start on. And the GMC had a Wayne head.... Moral: if you locate the right engine, grab it, then worry about getting something to put it in. Oh, well, the price of that project would have eaten up the cost of at least 2 really fine custom rifles.

Haven't seen a 12 port Wayne head in years. I led Don Orosco to the engine shown. He purchased it. An extra set of heads were there. I don't know if Don purchased them also.
