Leopoldo can’t fix it!

I have a Leupold 24 X-D scope that would not hold its zero. It is the benchrest model with the locking objective focus ring. Sent it in to Leupold for repair.
I get a message from Leupold CS that says they cannot repair the scope! They want me to call n discuss a replacement. Can’t for the life of me figure out what can be broken that can’t be repaired on a “1 inch tube, fixed power scope!
I purchased the fixed power scope to shave weight off my prone/ sling rifle. Variables add too much weight to the gun And 24X with a 1/4 MOA dot was perfect for me. Plus, I am assuming ( u know how they spell assume) that any replacement is going to be a 30 mm tube which requires new rings n adds weight. New rings are another expense, not to mention the undesirable ( to me) side focus feature. All this added to the short list of undesirable reticule choices.
So now I have the dilemma of seeing what replacement they offer to me.
Any suggestions?

If they offer to replace your scope with a new one what remedy would be better satisfy you? I have a Burris that was so blurry that I sent back to Burris. Burris returned it saying it was repaired and when I received it back is was more blurry than before. I wish Burris had given me the answer that Leopold gave you you got.

It is normal that companies will eventually run out of parts for old designs. It simply doesn’t make economic sense to keep making parts for products that don’t often come back and need parts.
That said, I’m sure they will offer a fair value replacement. Take it, post it here for a good price, take the money and buy a used replacement of what you want (here, eBay, Gunbroker, etc)

Leupold is a good company. Hopefully, you'll come out better than original. Aside that, I had an early model Trijicon 5-30 FFP that the parallax went south. Sent it back and the reply was it was obsolete and couldn't be fixed. Sent me a brand new Ten Mile, same specs. Satisfied is an understatement.

Leupold took good care of me when I busted a 6.5-20x40. Couldn't be fixed. They first offered a new version of that scope which I agreed to. Unfortunately they didn't have any in stock. After a few weeks, we talked and they offered a better scope; and LRP with 50mm objective. Problem was it's a first focal plane with tenth mil adjustments. I figured, what the heck I'll try it out. I now know I don't have an FFP / mil brain. Live and learn. Leupold treated me extremely well. Give them a chance to shine.

I had a what I would call friction ball come loose in a Mk 4. Actually ran into the regional rep locally and described the problem. He made the comment “you know they don’t make those anymore “, and said they would replace it with something newer if they couldn’t repair it. Sent it in, a few weeks later it came back good as new. I’m glad it was fixable.

Good service.

Shipping would kill ya! LOL
You've not paid for a repair at a dealership lately I guess. I'll provide an example.

Step daughters car, A/C quit working. She took it to the Ford dealer and they came back with a laundry list of $3K in parts and they hadn't even taken anything apart yet. No labor included yet, either.

I had her bring it to the house. Replaced both Schrader valves and pulled a vacuum on it overnight, which held. Added refrigerant and that was roughly 18 months ago. Cost about $100 including refrigerant.

How far can a vehicle be shipped for $3K?

In all industries as time goes by there are less and less people who can fix things. It's been a growing and GROWING problem for quite a few years. There are lots of parts replacers but few repair folks. Since the people out there have neither the training or ability to diagnose problems the answer is, Just replace it all. In many cases the industries no longer offer repair, Just replace. After close 50 years in the auto repair sector I have seen it become the monster in the room no one wants to talk about. It seems the Leupold is taking good care of you, be thankful. On the flip side, if a repair is made and someting ELSE breaks a month later, someone is mad at you.

Yeah, good point. I got thrust into the position of trying to figure out what was wrong AFTER all the parts changers had been at it for several days.

I'm no guru but my God man! Don't change a part unless you're changing it for a good reason.

Such is the way of the repair industry. I suppose it's been that way for a long time and will be for a long time. I'll say this, if you're diagnostic abilities are based on a parts changing book then you're over-employed. You can't fix a sandwich. You just swap out condiments.

OP, Sucks they couldn’t fix it but like mentioned above it was an old model and they probably no longer have the part it needs.

What did they end up offering you as a replacement?

In my case it was a Leupold BR-24. They offered me a Leupold Competition 45x45. But I asked for a VX3i 8.5x20 instead. Both out of stock I will receive it when back into production
