Left the range "Al Warner"

Got a call from Dan Warner yesterday and a call you don't want to get. Dan called to tell me his dad past away a week ago. He said his dad always thought of me as a friend etc...and I very much appreciated that friendship even though we didn't talk everyday etc....

When Bartlein Barrels started and Al found out he called me. He said, "Hey Frank! It's Al! Tracy and you guys making barrels?" I said, yes. He said, "Do you remember my Palma contour?" I said, yes. "He said give me a half a dozen in tight 30cal and 4 groove and 13 twist. I said, "Al I'll make you a couple at n/c and let you try them." He said, No. He said, "I know you and Tracy etc.. and just want good god dam barrels and send the invoice with them."

That was Al. Blunt and to the point. If you knew Al you would understand what I'm saying here. If you screwed up... Al would step on ya and it wasn't personal. Been there and done that with Al. LOL!

I told Dan on the phone yesterday that just a week and half or two weeks ago Al responded to my post on snipershide about who makes the best reloading dies. I said Warner probably flat out makes the best. I posted a link to a write up I did back around 2012 or so. A while back anyways. Al seen the post and responded simply with, "I remember that cheater 30cal you did Frank."

I'll miss ya Al! Sometimes we would call each other out of the blue and BS about something and sometimes it was about business.

Al if your reading this I hope you are sitting at a machine working on something in the heavens or shooting a rifle. Hopefully someday we meet again and can either send some rounds down range or just sit and around and BS!

Warner made the Warner match sight also being used by many in the hi power game.

I know without a doubt he taught his son Dan well the skills of the trade and instilled many good attributes into Dan.

RIP my friend!

Later, Frank

Sad news indeed.. my thoughts are with family and friends. Alan was always great to deal with, I always appreciated his no nonsense and get the job done attitude.

R.I.P. and condolences to the family. Warner Tool products are incredible and simply exceed expectations. Hopefully their tradition of excellence will continue.

We are diminished. I recently accepted an offer from Alan to fix a buggered RCBS 30 Herrett die. Not even his product but he reached out to offer and I sent it to him. He fixed it for me and it came back perfectly repaired and better than factory. He didn't owe me a thing...not even the offer to help...but he did. I never met the man and I never had been his customer. That says everything about the kind of guy he was and I am sorry that I had not met his acquaintence sooner in life.

Rest in peace Alan. I am praying for his family as they mourn and adjust.

Prayers for family and friends. Fortunate enough to have one of his iron sights purchased before they were discontinued.

Not sure anything shooting-related gives me more pride of ownership than his sights that I have. They are a high example of American quality and precision.
He was straight and direct to speak to.
Prayers for his family.
Best wishes for the business to continue.

Such sad news. Al, John Hoover and Alex Sittman contributed to my first build back in the early nineties. A friend to all in the shooting sports and beyond. Your legacy will be remembered my friend.
Prayers for Al’s family, RIP.
