Lee dies are they any good

Need 280 ai die set, thought about giving the lee,s a try doesn't have to be match grade but if it's not capable of producing accurate hunting ammo in out, thanks

I don't use Lee dies for my competition and varmint rifles, but for my .300WM big game rifle I use a Lee collet die (with a custom mandrel to provide 0.003" of "squeeze"), a Redding body die to bump the shoulder and size the base, and a Wilson bullet seater. No complaints. Here are some 200-yard targets shot off a bipod. Target #5 has the second fouling shot, then shots 3 & 4 to establish point of impact. Made a scope adjustment and put 1 shot each on target #4, #3, and #2. Ruag brass, 76.4gr H4831SC, Barnes 180gr TSX 0.050" off the lands, WLR primer, Remington 700 Sendero, Leupold 4.5-14x56.

Seems to work. :)

The Lee collet dies for the parent case, also work with the AI version. I use some Lee dies, but Redding are my first choice.

I have loaded some very accurate ammo using Lee Dies. In fact, I own the very set you are looking at to load for my custom Mauser in .280AI and it shoots fantastic. They are cheap, easy to use and work very well.

Nothing wrong with them, wouldn't us for match ammo, and are there beter out there, yes, but they will get job done. I have one set, 6.8 spc2, shoots under 3/4 moa consistently, sometimes better.

I use Lee dies for .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. I have had no issues with them, and am happy with the results. Shooting 168 grain Hornadys from a Remington 40X, my last 200 yard prone match score was 598-40x. So no complaints!

I've had a good experience with lee neck sizing dies combined with a body sizing die, but recently started using a full length sizing die minus the expander ball, then neck sizing with a carbide turning mandrel. I've run ES/SD data on both methods and the data says stay with the full length sizing die and the turning mandrel, but its very close. And both are better than my full length sizing die with an expander ball.

The design of the Lee standard seaters suck. There is only a short bullet diameter guide. The silly seater punch is free floating without much but the bullet to align it when the bullet is seated. You will never see another company copy Lee's half baked dies.
Yes I own some Lee die sets. About 10 sets but I also own more than 50 other sets. Only Herters get lower marks. And Herters are poorly dimensioned and machined. Lees are usually well machined but are designed to be cheap not to have the best function.

I bump with a Redding FL die without the expander ball and run them through a Lee Collet die. I seat with a Wilson inline seater. Lee collet dies are good at keeping necks straight but at some point you are going to need to FL size and for hunting I would FL size every loading.

I have several Lee ultimate die sets including the really good buy and cannot complain about the product that they produce. 223, 22-250 and 308.
