Lead sled

Anybody have experience with the Caldwell Lead Sled? Midway has them on sale and I need a good excuse to get one. Seems it would make it more fun when sighting in the heavier calibers. Any other reasons will be appreciated. Thanks.

As for an aid to sight-in - you will find that shooting from off-hand, bi-pod, or sandbag rests will yield a much different POI as that achieved from a led sled due to the bullet is still in the barrel in the beginning stages of recoil. You may also cause stock fracture and optic problems. A gun that I did not enjoy shooting in it's intended use due to recoil would not stay on the ranch very long.

I'm not a fan of these for the reasons LH Smith stated in his post reply. He is absolutely on about the POI changes. I see no value in these even for load testing.

If recoil bothers you then get a shoulder pad and / or grip the forearm which will better control recoil and give you a more true sight in for hunting purposes.

Not one maybe. Didn't know anything about them before but now I know enough not to buy one. Thought they might have a use. Thanks for the info.

I have one. Never liked it for all the reasons seen here in comments. I turned it into a rifle holding platform for doing things like mounting scopes, etc. Works okay for that purpose at least.

good way to break your stock, and quite frankly, if you can't sight it how can you shoot it?
