LC brass in a bolt gun

With the critical shortage of brass that our beloved government has caused, I am trying some load's for my rem700 with LC brass. My question is, does anyone have a good starting load for a bolt gun. I will be shooting 40 to 69 gr bullet's and it is a Remington 700 LTR with a 1 in 9" twist. I don't have much experience with the LC brass and need a jump start. Thank's in advance

I shoot a distant cousin to your rifle in the form of a Savage VLP DVM model (1:9) bolt gun in .223. I used a fair amount of LC, Priv Partizan, and now use Lapua. My rifle settled in shooting the best using 52 gr HPBT's and 53 FB Sierra being pushed by BLC-2. I'm an accuracy freak who chases accuracy and consistency. I also shoot exclusively paper off a bench anymore. When I tested the spread on my powder was 26.5 low to 28.7 high. The LC brass is actually very good brass and should perform very well for you. I know it did for me. The only reason I shyed away from it was I got into the Lapua habit with all my rifles. That is not to say LC brass isn't good stuff. Good luck and have fun.

Have not noticed much difference, just start and work your way up, it does have thicker brass and as such has less case capacity than commercial brass. I have used it for a number of years, I like it. Look at the Sierra load info. on the Home page for .223 and start with the AR15 load info, which is normally less than bolt gun.

I currently use LC brass in my.223ai . It works beautifully If I do my part it will shoot mid threes . I love the stuff . Varget would work well blc2 possibly even 4064 .

LC and winchester are about the same weight and volume wise. some lots of LC are very consistent neck thickness wise

Yeah I see no difference between Winchester and LC.. as for Lapua and LC, yes, there is some difference, the necks are thinner and I have seen about 2-3 grains difference in weight. When the brass is completely prepped, I see no difference in it even out to 1000 yards in my 223.

LC is third in line behind Lapua And Norma. It's actually quite excellent stuff.

Was your LC brass mixed once fired or unfired and from the same lot?

It is not all from the same lot and it range's from 1996 to 2012 as far as year's, and there is 100 rds of match in the mix. It sound's to me like it is good stuff.

23.5-25 Varget/SRM primer with the 69's in my Rem with 1:9 twist. I keep the years together. I don't know why. I use the SRM primer because I pierced a couple of SR with the 25 gr Varget load. Now I don't worry about that.

Nice part about the decent cheap bulk once fired NATO LC and Win brass is you don't feel guilty at all throwing a questionable case in the scrap bin.

The current rifle that I am shooting is holding .5 moa at 1K right now with LC brass. I don't think that I will ever go back to using Lapua brass.

Just remember its harder and not thicker as some will tell you spreading the myth.

Lake City and military 5.56 brass must meet Mil-Spec hardness requirements.
