Lathe spindle spider build

I recognized that name topnpr from somewhere. 5 years ago you made a custom mosin stock for me. A few months later I came up with a way to convert mosins to longer cartridges. The front and rear of the ejection port are needed for camming. The extraction of 3.34" unfired cartridge seems trapped. I drilled the receivers for an ejection override button. The ejector itself is the button return spring.
I made on in 7mmRemMag with a rem700 take off barrel, and then made one in 300WM with a Krieger barrel and shot a deer with it.

By bending, i think you mean flexing right? Out of curiosity, could a guy use indicators to determine if he is bending or flexing the barrel?


A spider on each end of the headstock will not bend or flex the barrel. If you are using a chuck and chuck jaws only on one end you could flex-bend a barrel.

Ok, but, that wasnt my question. My question was, can a person use indicators to determine if he is bending/flexing a barrel?
 
Just put a Deltronic pin in your barrel and put your indicator on the pin and tighten the jaws.
I started to answer one of these posts and decided- no I think I’ll stay out of this so I just posted the above. Thanks for the tip
 
A Deltronic pin is a gage pin. Put one in the bore of your blank. Put the tip of your tenth indicator on it. Tighten your check jaws and watch your indicator.
 
This is what i had in mind for anybody who is interested. The solid line being the barrel. If you move the muzzle end you should get a certain amount of movement on the chamber end.

Using the screws that are used to adjust the barrel on the inboard/chuck side as the fulcrum you can plug your numbers into the appropriate spot on a trigonometry calculator.

Once you have your known dimensions i.e. lengths (b) and (a) on the muzzle side you can find angle (A). Then, apply angle (A) and your length for (b) to the other side of the fulcrum to find (a). Now when you move the muzzle end a said amount you will know how much your chamber end should move.

I want to make sure that everyone knows I'm only mentioning this so people can see for themselves what is going on with there own setup. And im not arguing either way on whether barrels "bend" or not and I am not saying that anybody needs to change the way they do things. I know what ive seen in my experience and i thought I'd give others the chance to check for themselves too.

Are you're saying that is how much it is bending?


If it is bending, it will measure it unless your screws with buttons are moving it. I don't think and haven't measured a bend with catheads on either end. If I can still slide a Deltronic pin through it, it ain't bent. With chuck jaws, another story.
