Lathe setup

I will be trying the hockey puck suggested by Dusty. That is a great trick. I worry about the factory ones as it seems like the cushion would settle over time and through the lathe out of alignment.
It sure doesn't break the bank to use the hockey puck method which is also a huge plus. I found individual pucks online for as little as $1.50 each. Add a carriage bolt, some large fender washers, and three nuts to them and you have a very inexpensive stable foot for maybe $5 or $6 bucks each.

i leveled mine using the cast pads provided by the manufacturer then grouted into place. I don't like the idea of rubber or synthetic. I'm confident my machine isn't going to move

I guess a 60 shore C durometer is perfect. Now go get some hockey pucks and rest easy knowing your machine will be happy. I wonder if it matters if you use canadian, american or north korean made pucks?

I'm still having a hard time why mounting a small tool room lathe on thick rubber pucks is a good idea, lol. A mill and CNC is a different story.

Ok ok, I have to chime in now. After reading everyone’s comments I have to give my two cents on the most critical thing here...
Go with American hockey pucks. Pay once, cry one.

I think it looks like the grout is not equal distant around the one side. Im assuming you probably tuned that to your lathe to offset the vibrations and eliminate the chatter? Lol

Well, if I were using hockey pucks, I'd have to go with Canadian, LOL.

Going Canadian eh?

I don't see any shims or other leveling devices under your lathe. While it is possible that your floor is perfect, somehow I find it hard to believe. How did you level your lathe?

Papa, he used the leveling pads and screws that came with the lathe. Once he had it perfect, he then gounted under it, encapsulating the leveling pads inside the grout. Not his lathe cannot move. Lets hope his floor never moves. I have a buddy that before he got his lathe he cut a hole in his garage floor and put in a 2' thick foundation for the lathe...
