Lathe Purchase--Have Requirements Now

So the Kingston is being ordered. We did take a hard look at the PM 1640 TL, as it is several thousand dollars less. However, the Kingston has better bearings and tighter tolerances.

The Kingston and new operator will be used for our simpler builds. I will do all the weird stuff on the PM 1440 GT. It's fun doing the weird stuff when you don't have a bunch of other builds that need to be done ASAP hanging over your head.

How long will it take to arrive?

Wow, the specs on the PM-1640 TL
High Precision Tapered Roller Bearings used in spindle, for the
ultimate in long life, high precision, and best surface
finishes. Guaranteed Run Out +/- .0001″ for ultimate
precision

So Kingston is measure in 100 thousands of an inch. Impressive. Be some very expensive metrology instruments to verify.

Not sure. I think it's in stock
Last time I talked to them they said they had nearly every spare part in stock, from headstock bearings to way wipers and everything in between.

I believe the HJ has been in production since the 90's with minimal changes.

Don't think the boss is going that way. Most likely it will be a Kingston HJ 1100. We are going tomorrow to a local shop that uses one to be shown how barrels can be chambered and finished in an hour.

If it were me I would probably get the smart lathe or a TL-1. Doesn't really matter for me as I will likely stay on the 1440GT and be stuck doing all the weird stuff, since the Kingston will be very specialized.
There is a "Kingston" Dealer in Salt Lake that has quite a few in stock.
