LaRue 2S Trigger

After many years of owning my Colt AR15 A2 HBar Pre Ban I'm going to change the trigger to the LaRue , I am a benchrest shooter and a bolt guy using a trigger in ounces ( Jewell) . I bought the AR back in 1990 for my son to shoot and it's been a safe gueen for many years , I've cleaned it but it's almost brand new . Lately I've gotten the itch to put it to work but the trigger is pretty gritty after shooting my 700 . I like what I'm reading about the LaRue, not expecting it to be a competition type only some improvement over the stock mil spec. Anyone out there using this trigger ? Would like know how it worked out for you.
PS: I'm looking at the responses to to posts , it's not that good guys 25 out of 500 reads. Not a good sign for this forum

I have several Larue triggers in my various gas guns...They are much better than the stock triggers in any AR.
Thats just my opinion however, and Geissele is pretty darn good as well, as Trigger Tech..have one of those too.
Guess I have used most at some time....and nothings going to be a Jewell ....at under 4oz

Thanks for answering , I agree it could be like the Jewell and wasn't expecting it to be , just a cleaner feel , wasn't even looking for a lighter touch in a semi. I will list what think of the trigger when it comes . Have you noticed there haven't been many responses on posts . I also post on another forum TFL , it's like a group of shooters helping others . Thanks again.

They are all an improvement...Get's sorta expensive trying to figure out what works best for you however...

I use two AR's a good bit. One has a JP Rifles 20" barrel that I shoot out to 500 and I use the Geissele SSA-E two stage. It is really nice, but I am reading that other Geissele triggers are even better. But, for me at least, it's pricey. The other AR that I shoot a lot is the one that rides tractors and pickups - I kill stuff with it and don't really take care of it like I should. I put a $89.00 on sale Rock River Arms Varmint on it and it is not in the class of the Geissele, but it is heads above the "enhanced" triggers. It is advertised as a 3.5 lb trigger.

I forgot I have a Rise Armament 140 single stage I bought on sale for $100. I think it is 3.5 lbs too, but is single stage. It's nice, but I don't shoot it enough right now to have an opinion. I know that I had to buy an anti-walk kit that locks the trigger and hammer pins in the receiver. I wasn't too happy that I had to spend that extra money.

I am sure the Larue is nice, but I've never had experience with it. My understanding is that it is an "enhanced" trigger and I see they rate it at 4.5 lbs.

For what I do, I personally like two stages.

I have several Larue triggers. I also have a few Geissele triggers. For the money, the Larue triggers are fantastic. Machined from solid S7 tool steel, so they'll only get better with age. While I think some of the Geissele triggers are subjetively better, they also cost 3x as much. Haven't bought a Geissele trigger in a long time.

I hope to have the trigger soon so I can report back how I like it . This just made me think back when serving in the Army , seving in the 9th Infantry Vietnam 67-68 carrying the M16 as my primary . Only thing we knew was press the trigger and hit what your aiming at . Knew nothing of match grade triggers , single or 2 stage triggers . Can't even remember how the triggers felt but they were good enough .

If by enhanced, you mean a polished up and possibly coated mil-spec trigger, no. It is an aftermarket trigger through and through.

That's good to know. I might try a Larue myself. I really have liked my Rock River Arms, but I see the Larue is $10 cheaper and has the same 3.5lb pull. In fact, I have two rifles that need triggers now.

I’ve shot and built rifles with various mil spec triggers, larue mbt2s, rise, hyperfire, cmc, a and a couple geissele.

IMO the geissele ssa-e is the best, and the larue mbt2s is the best value. It’s my default aftermarket trigger and what I recommend to friends.

I just finished installing the LaRue MBT 2S trigger on my Colt HRar , very simple upgrade . The trigger break is so nice , I love it , big improvement over the original mil spec gritty trigger , the trigger feels a little flatter and slightly wider then the original. For $87.00 delived and a breeze to install , I would highly recommend the trigger. Talking the SSA-E trigger is another animal , lighter 2lb and 3 times the price . If your looking to tighten your groups with your AR , I'm not talking to a competition shooter looking for that ragged one hole group at 200 yards ( that's bolt action rifles triggers set in ounces ) A tight cluster , give the LaRue a try . I'm a Happy Customer.

Add the reduced power springs for a even better trigger. Installed them in mine and the weight came down even more. Best triggers for the money.

Some of the reduced power springs will cause some primer strike reliability in some Calibers and some ammunition. just my2c
YMMV however...depends on what your shooting.

That was my concern using any lighter spring then comes with the trigger, I do use a Jewell trigger set in ounces for bolt action , benchrest setup only but the system operates different then the AR trigger. Once you get use to the second stage of 2 lbs. on the LaRue it breaks like the Jewell . Trigger time is important , practice.

cw308, I think you made the right choice with the LaRue and the best bang for your buck on all the choices out there.
After shooting my bolt guns I cant even shoot a AR chassis without re-learning the trigger all over. ( a dozen shots or more ) Its really a finesse to
shoot a gas gun with any repeatable accuracy and im really good with my Grendel AR but it helps if I leave the bolt gun with the 4 oz Jewel
trigger at home and only concentrate on the Gas gun trigger. You get so spoiled with a really great trigger.;)

I agree 100% Sand , going down the rabbit hole in reloading a good trigger made the biggest improvement . I'm at 10 ounces ,4 ounces qualifies for brain surgery . Be Safe out there.

Its Competition only gun with a bench-rest Jewel Trigger shooting 6.5x47 out of a 28 inch Krieger 8 twist.
F Class ( 500, 600 and 1000 yds ) .. ( Still like accurate AR Gas Guns a lot.)
There just hard to shoot really well...takes a lot of work to be good with them...but there great when you get the load right and they
all group under a nickel.

Never got into competition , but some of my shooting friends do , I shoot .5 3 10 shot groups per range trip as long as I don't rush . Rem700 308 Rock Creek M24 5R 11.27 twist . What blew my mind was this Chinese couple that walk the same circle , we got into a conversation on shooting , they invited me to see their trophies , he has Parkinson's walks with a walker , his name is Clark Shen , he said he shot with a BR30 , when I looked up the rifle , there was his name , holds some world records 100, 200,600 and 1000 yard First and second place trophies , he has at least 60 plaques hanging on his wall . I was speechless.

Yea the guy is a regular Benchrest Legend..
Im just a rookie payin my dues and enjoyin the ride...Its all about having a good time. I dont shoot Benchrest, not my cup joe right now anyway.
Im too old to take this stuff super seriously, just tryin to improve a little on the way. Cant think of anything Id rather be doin than tryin
to beat the wind at 600 or 1000 yds.;) John
