Lapua Palma .308: Do you ream the flash hole?

What I am asking is do you chamfer the inside face of the flash hole?

Just to be clear, I am NOT referring to boring out the diameter of the flash hole.

I primer pocket uniform, but someone has told me not to ream the flash hole. I think that the person was referring to expanding the diameter of the flash hole.

Many thanks

The question is, is there a uniformer that maintains the Lapua diameter, or are you having to ream it out to the US SR flash hole?

I do not increase the diameter of the flash hole itself on Lapua brass. Rarely do I find a stray flake of brass on the inside edge, and that can easily be cleaned up with a small 2 flute center drill. Lapua make those holes the size they are for a reason.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

I have 200 pieces on their 18th firing having opened the flash hole to .0625". My SDs are in the 7-8 range w/ 155s/Varget/Tula, Wolf, or Ginis primers. My 1K yd. waterline is great when I do my part.

do a search, lots of debate but most have found absolutely no loss in performance by opening up to the .062 also don’t forget most decaping pins are for the SR primer and not the ppc small hole size

Besides checking for a burr....nothing at all. A ONE time act. Lapua seems to have less burrs that other makes. Whether they drill or punch or use a laser to produce the flash I don't know nor care. I am merely taking a burr off NOT changing angle on the hole.

Many thanks to you all.

I should have asked the question more simply: Do you de-burr the inside of the flash hole on Lapua Palma .308 cases?

I haven’t ever seen much of a burr on Lapua brass. I don’t do anything to it. It’s not like domestic brass.

A very lite chamfer using a new drill bit is what I’ve always used. Experiment with cases that are chamfered against those that aren’t.

Let us know the results.
