Lapua brass

Why doesn't Lapua fill the space in their blue boxes with some foam padding material or something. In a new blue box of 100 6.5x47, there is a lot of unfilled space.... which in mine at least resulted in lots of dented case mouths.... :(

JabaliHunter,

We're working on it. We made the switch to the new blue pastic boxes last year, and have seen a definate uptick in case mouth damage during shipment. Right now, they're working on coming up with a filler that can be used to take up the extra airspace and keep the cases from getting dinged or or the case mouths bent. The rub (from what we've been told) is coming up with something that's inert, and won't react with the brass to cause spotting or staining. Part of the problem with this is that it requires some time testing to see what will work and what causes another problem. Bottom line is, yes, we're very much aware of it, and we're working to come up with a solution.

Kevin Thomas, Again a factory rep is on top of comments or critiques for Lapua. KUDO'S Lapua and Berger are about the ONLY Ammo componant factories that actively frequent and respond to comments good/bad on these forums. Again Thank You, Roger T

I agree that it is nice to see someone from the company commenting on these issues. It gives me a feeling that they actually care.

Kind of a side note, I had 2- 6.5x284 cases out a box that aren't any good because of a "V" shaped dent between the neck and shoulder. I also had 4 6BR cases that were unusable out of 200 last year but I can't remember if they had the same mark or not. As much as this stuff costs anymore it would be nice to get all that you pay for.

the box has an insert so it works as a storage box for loaded brass (nice touch). If the box was smaller it wouldnt work with loaded ammunition.

Understood, I have a bunch of the new blue box's. I prefer MTM and would rather have nice brass than pretty boxes ;). I'm sure Lapua will find a solution for those who like the the BB's and unmolested brass.

I just picked up a couple of boxes of 260 brass. I noticed the dents too. I will offer a suggestion. I have a few boxes of Federal Premium brass back when it was really premium and it came in cartons where all the brass was stacked together like 22 rimfires in a box. There was no wasted space and no damage. I was always impressed by this. There were myriad of box sizes so that brass was perfectly fitted inside.

This would require no fillers that would discolor the brass and any damage would have to come through the sides of the carton. I never had any damaged brass in the cartons that you used to use either though.

Hi Kevin, I have noticed the case mouth damage as well. The packing foam that Berger use to pack their bullets is inert, might be worth a try.

Any chance Lapua will make a run of straight 284 for us 7mm fans? I am reworking 6.5x284 for a 284 win. And it shoots! Sure would be nice to skip that step.

LRPV,

Drop me a PM on this and I'll get some replacements out to you, no problem. On the road to a match this week, so I won't be able to get them in the mail until next week, okay?

Just need to know what these are and the lot numbers if you can provide them. Any pics of the defective brass would help, or, you could send in the brass and I'll take the pics. The Finns keep a pretty close track of this sort of thing, but pics or other verification and a lot number goes a long way in helping us resolve problems like this.

Thanks!

Kevin out of the 800 cases I purchased this year I only had one 6br case that had a deep v shape in the neck, I fireformed it in my 6brx and then used it for my modified case for my Hornady OAL tool, I have lost a half a dozen cases in the fireforming process, I feel no fault of yours. I have noticed more dents in the case mouths in the new blue boxes then in the old card board. I would like to thank you and Lapua for your great customer service, you don't see Remington on here doing what you just did for LRPV, I say thats just great.
Wayne.

I second what Wayne said and like I told Kevin, I didn't expect to have them replaced. The 22-250 Lapua brass I got was defect free.

I would like to see the brass in a different box too. Whether Lapua does this or not I will still continue to shoot their brass as it is heads and tails the best in my opinion. You can tell a difference in the quality vs the other brass makers. Thanks

Kevin......you make brass.....MTM makes boxes....if you promise not to make boxes They will most likely promise not to make brass

Kevin,
Because I care, I am going to give you a simple solution to this terrible dilemma.
I realize it will cost lots of money to come up with a different box or a different packing option to keep your high quality brass perfect.
Well, rest easy, all you have to do is.................. wait for it.... wait for it.
Simply place 150 cases in the box you have now and sell them for the same price you are for 100. Problem solved!
You can compensate me for this brilliant fix by sending me a couple of 150 count boxes of 6BR brass next week.

I have also currently had the dented neck and crease problem in the batch of brass that I got.
Calib,
P.M Kevin Thomas, I think he will take care of you, if there are a lot of them he may send you a new box and you can send him the defective box, give him a chance he is a really nice guy and will at least attempt to help.
Wayne.
