Lapua brass - quality control (or lack of it!!!)

A couple of years ago I bought a box which only had 99 cases in it, vendor wouldn't do anything as it was a sealed box (so it was nothing to do with them)

]I tried e-mailing Lapua and they didn't even acknowledge the e-mail, never mind respond.

Was not very impressed with the service at all, still if this thread raises awareness...

Good luck Les

Gareth,
I also had a box of 6.5*284 Lapua with only 99 cases in it, I have had three with 101 cases in them over the years , when I used to have to sort Winchester and Remington brass I would end up throwing 1/3 to 1/2 sometimes into the brass bucket, because they would never make match brass. If the operator forgets to tare the scale it could be off by a piece of brass one way or the other.

Wayne,

Thanks for your reply. It was the lack of response, rather than the lack of brass that got my goat :)

Lapua brass are good and I have never had a problem with them (that I didn't cause myself)

Hi Gareth, I will let you know if Lapua respond to my email.
Can you send a PM to me if you know of any local shooting dates at Ponteland for 2012.
Cheers,
Les

Absolutely Gareth, and point well taken, we all like to be recognized and treated with respect that's for sure :)

PM waiting for you.

St George's are on this Sunday on B Range and Tyne Valley haven't released their dates yet (but will forward them)

No company is any better at customer service than Lapua that I am aware of. The posts so far have shown that. I have been buying reloading componets since the mid 1960s. All manufacturers are on the level when it comes to service in my experience. Not so much with the retailers in some cases.
I too got a box with only 99 cases in it 3-4 years ago but on the other hand I have had 2 boxes in the past 10-12 years that had 101 pieces in it. Go figure! I am ahead by one piece of brass out of about 4000 or more.

Not knowing much on how brass is manufactured, it looks like one could implement a low pressure air test as an extra check to look for neck splits. If it won't hold pressure, it has a split. This would reduce variability on manual checks.

Hunt,
That would be near to impossible and usually the necks are not split clear through anyway, there defective and finish splitting after firing or you can tell they will and don't, at any rate Lapua could only make several hundred boxes of cases per year if yo had to stop the machine to do a blead off test with each piece of brass tested, also each piece would be worth about 11000 dollars :o
