Lapua Brass, Lost 51 pcs Right Off the Bat!

Just received my order of 500 pcs of Lapua brass.. 223. After first inspection, i have already culled out 51 pcs of brass that i will reject due the appearance that the sides and bases of the cases have been over heated. i can not at this time consider these pcs of brass to be safe to use.. i have never seen this before in Lapua brass..

Though you may not be able to see it, but all of these pcs have the same discoloration in them.
Like i have said.. i have never seen this before.. so is the quality control at Lapua fallen off the top shelf?

Was there any foam in the boxes?
If there was, the cases are just fine. Its just a reaction with the foam. They aren't over annealed and didn't get hot.

Contact Kevin Thomas on here. He is the Lapua Rep and is on this Forum.. I had a similar experience with 6.5 x 47 brass. Although it was not an annealing problem, the cases were nearly destroyed and placed in the proverbial blue box. The necks and shoulders were literally caved in. I used a needlenose pliers to force open the case mouths and then ran them in a mandrel. I was afraid to fire them because the shoulders were literally folded in. BUT I ran a light load and fireformed every one of them and they worked! I contacted Kevin and he gave me 25 new pieces even though I lost none. He will make it right!

Yeah.. i couldn't remember his name.. but now.. with your guidance.. i know whom to contact.. thanks

They look fine to me.

Stick some brass in the oven at a moderate temp (say~300-350F) to dry them, they will come out looking like that if you leave them long enough.

One thing I have noticed is that there are often only 99 of the cases in a box of 100. Small thing but annoying nonetheless.

I agree. 101 makes customers much more happy than 99. Bakers dozen?

Lapua is my go to brass. I can't imagine them not making this right.

I wouldn't use any cases of that lot. Contact Thomas or Lapua direct. Yes Lapua QC is not what it used to be.

It looks like they missed the last pickling process.
Notice how the normal annealing line extends to below the shoulder at the same place on each case. A logical sign that the mis-colored brass missed one or more of the pickling steps. .............. Just not acceptable for premium brass and not the 1st time this has been reported on Lapua .223 brass.............. JRS's post may be speculation but, I'd say educated speculation.

Just had same thing with .308 Palma brass. Contacted Kevin and he said it was the final wash stage. Yep, looks like annealed but its discoloration from the wash.
