Just started preparing brass for the first time. I have some old .308 Lapua brass that a friend gave me and 100 new cases that I bought recently. Like an idiot I dumped about 20 of the old cases into the new case box and then started to prep the cases ( neckturning, neck bushing, primer pocket uniforming, neck and flash hole deburring) After I washed the cases off and dried them I started to sort by weight, turns out the old cases are about 4 grains heavier than the new cases, but the other difference was the height of the factory anealing ring, much lower on the old cases and very consistent. I was able to pick out all the old cases from the mixed batch by looking for the lower anealing ring! I confirmed this weighing each case.
