Lapua brass flash hole question

I read on the 6BR page on this site "Our tests suggest that ES and SD may increase with ANY modification of the Lapua Flash-holes, which run 1.50mm (.059″) out of the box." Is this indicative of my 6.5x47 and 6.5x284 Lapua brass as well or just the 6BR? The 6.5x47 does take the small primers.....

when they say ANY do they mean flash-hole deburring as well? or are they just referring to flash hole diameter?

The 6.5x47L definitely has the small diameter flash hole (same as 6br), sorry haven't had anything to do with the 6.5x284.
cheers

schumi,

No, it doesn't apply to flash hole deburring, assuming it's not completely overdone. Knocking off any burrs (there shouldn't be much of one, anyway!) won't hurt a thing, just don't open the flash hole up to the standard larger sized 2mm (.080") hole.

The cases that currently get the 1.5mm flash holes are the 220 Russian, the 6mm BR, the 6.5x47L and the new small-primered 308 Win Palma (but not the standard 308 Win utilizing the Large primer). The rest of our line utilizes the conventional 2mm/.080" flash holes.

Hope that helps!

Kevin,I just want to thank you for going above and beyond dealing with lapua products.I have a question:is it pronounced lop wah in reality as a friend told me that.Just curious. Didnt mean to hijack the thread.

rcw3,

Hate to use the popular vernacular, but you're right . . . my bad! The Grendel also utilizes the 1.5mm flash hole. Don't load that one myslef right now, so I've never stuck a decapping pin in a case when trying to resize them. That sort of pain seems to be a good learning method that I tend to remember. I have done so with the BR brass, and probably would have when our new Palma 308 cases came out, but for the fact that I immediately switched out decapping pins in all my 308 dies.

Jon,

yes, it's "Lop-wha" . . . although as my boss says, so long as your name's on an invoice or purchase order, you can pronounce it however you want!

Well I would not say its a "my bad" moment - just a minor oversight I think. I only know it well with the Grendel brass because I once had a decent size batch of die sets made for use with Grendel brass and the wrong pin was used and I had to replace the decap pins on 100 die sets before I could sell them to customers. That kind of event makes you remember something like that well.

I have also had my share of the "duh" moments (usually when I am playing trying something different than usual) and wound up getting a standard small primer decap pin stuck in the 1.5 mm flash hole of a piece of Lapua brass. Every time I do it I feel like a dunce.

Thanks for your great postings!

Robert

I think half the world (on this side of the Atlantic) butchers the pronunciation of "Lapua".

Here are some of the phonetic variations I have heard

Lao-pa
La-poo-ah
Lap-wah

Regardless, we all get the message.

Robert
