Lapua 6PPC primer pocket prep ??

what all do you do to the Lapua 220 Russian primer pockets when using for 6mm PPC ?? lots of people have told me not to do anything to any Lapua brass with the small primer pockets but it seems like when seating primers that some take more pressure to seat than others and some are deeper than others when seated to the same "feel" ..

I think I am gonna deburr the flash holes but undecided on uniforming the primer pockets,,brass has been fireformed 1 shot and shot 1 time in a match,,

do any of yall uniform the primer pockets in your Lapua 6PPC brass ??

dont debur or uniform the flash holes. you can use the 21st century micrometer adjustable pocket uniforming tool and be ok but past that I wouldnt do anything to lapua primer pockets. beburring them makes a funnel inside instead of a squared off flash hole.

hey,,I am good at doing nothing...I just wanted to make sure what I was told about the 6BR and 6.5x47 primer pockets and flash holes applied to the 6PPC also,,

PMA tools makes a beautiful carbide primer pocket tool with perfect depth stop just for 6mm PPC Lapua prep. it can be run in a drill(comes with removal drill adapter) but it has a rubber grip insert around it's base to enhance grip for hand use which is how I use it. It is pricey but fun to use

Be aware that using Russian primers (Tula, Wolf, etc.) and other thicker-cupped primers can create very high sd's after deepening the pockets. some of the pocket reamers really take a bit out more than they need to and can lead to the necessity of a primer change. Differences in seating pressure won't cause differences in sd's, though depth could slightly if you had what would probably amount to a less-than-stellar batch of Lapua brass - which is not that often. It has been argued by many very successful shooters that leveling the bottoms makes no difference with Lapua Brass. I don't think so either - but it does make it easier to know your primers are fully seated with that nice square base to push them into. You are right in that a lot of people say to leave the flash holes alone. That is, in my opinion, because a lot of people opened up flash holes slightly using the reamers and found that it changed their load from tune. No big surprise there. Still, if all flash holes are more perfect than they were before properly reaming - I think that is a plus. The reamer I used that went way too deep was a Sinclair reamer. Don't know if it was by design or poor QC. As dustystevens said - no de-burring.

Does anyone have the primer decaper in Wilson neck die stick in primer flash hole. I seem to have to use a k&m deburer to keep from hanging decapper in necksizing process on lapau 6 ppc brass. K&m cuts flash hole ever so slight just enough for decapper to not hang. Wrong? Looking for advice!

You have the wrong pin in your die. Call wilson and get the right one. Dont be plunging that pin thru there or youll mess up the flash holes

I really like my Neal Jones de-capping tool for the ppc and 30 Major. My large primers in the WSM & 6.5-06imp. get run through the Lee de-cap die. I have a good feel using both these tools.
